Learn to Cast Spells That Work!
Learning to cast spells requires an understanding of how Witchcraft works. One thing you learn when you properly study Witchcraft is that some spells work and some don't.
The basic premise behind spell casting is that it stems from psychology and nature. The act of casting spells works on your brain by setting the stage for undertaking your goals. The nature part comes from natural things we use—colors, scents, sounds, herbs, stones, etc.—to aid focus and stimulate the mind. Casting also lends metaphysical energy, which we raise and direct toward the goal when we use spells.
Now that we see how casting actually works, let’s look at why some of the more popularly sought-after magic spells have no effect and compare them to the spells that are more effective and realistic.
Guidelines for Effective Spell Casting
Cast spells that are:
- Realistic (and don't defy nature)
- Internally transformative (rather than externally transformative)
- Directed towards concrete things that you can control
- Focused on achievable desires
What Doesn't Work:
More often than we think, people long to use spells to make themselves something they’re not. For example, some people seek a spell to become a mermaid, a werewolf, or a cat. Unfortunately, spells like these are impossible, even for Witchcraft. Magic does not work against the laws of physics—it’s subject to the laws of nature.
You will always be what you were born to be—a human being. I don’t mean to burst anyone’s bubble, but it's better to accept the facts. There are many bogus spells that promise to turn you into all sorts of exciting things. None of them work. Some of them are dangerous and are not worth trying, so don’t take the risk!
What Does Work:
Use spells that will help you become something you can actually be. Wishing to be someone or something else usually means you’re unhappy with your life or long for more excitement. Fortunately, some spells exist to help you become the real person you want to be—to improve your talents, social skills, make you a better student, etc. Cast spells to work towards adventures you can actually take, like traveling.
Spells to Change Your Appearance (Drastically)
What Doesn't Work:
Some people are content to stay human. However, some people want to cast spells to look different. Society puts a great deal of pressure on us to look a certain way and measure up to a certain standard of beauty set by airbrushed models in magazines. This is a fantasy, in my opinion. Out of desperation, people may turn to Witchcraft.
No one spell will dramatically and unnaturally alter your appearance. You can’t cast a spell and wake up 40 pounds lighter the next day. You can’t change your race or your eye color. You can’t cast spells to make you taller or shorter.
What Does Work:
If you want a spell that works, use a spell for a more minor, natural change and then work toward a major change. For example, instead of trying to lose 40 pounds overnight and getting discouraged when it doesn’t happen, find a spell to help you gain good exercise habits and the diet that you need to banish food cravings. Then be patient. It will take time.
If you’re seriously unhappy with your looks, find a certain spell to help change your perspective. Using this spell may help you become less critical of yourself and ultimately more self-accepting.
Can You Win the Lottery With a Spell?
What Doesn't Work:
Everyone seems to want a "real spell to win the lottery." Oh, if only it were that easy; if the right spell existed, one could win the lottery and be a billionaire just like that. Unfortunately, magic doesn’t work so easily.
Imagine this: there’s a 10 million dollar bill on the sidewalk. Fifty million people run, and all pull it in different directions at once. What happens? That 10 million dollar bill is nothing but shreds.
That’s what happens to the energy when you use a spell for lottery winnings. So many people send energy (casting spells deliberately or sending energy unwittingly) to the same target that as a result, the energies negate each other.
What Does Work:
Be more specific—cast spells for better jobs, better pay, to sell your wares, or to expand your business. Use a spell that will help you improve your investments, control your spending habits, and pay off your debts. Don’t cast spells for major changes all at once, because there are too many factors—the energy required for a major spell has to stretch too far and cover too much ground. Cast something with tightly focused, narrow goals. It’s better to do several small workings, each focused on a minor thing than to cast spells for one big, life-changing goal.
Casting Wish Spells
What Doesn't Work:
Who needs a genie in a bottle if you could simply cast spells to grant your wishes? We wouldn’t be limited to three! Sadly, it doesn’t work that way. Wish spells are, unfortunately, just wasted efforts.
First, consider the energy. The most fundamental rule of casting spells that work is to focus your energy like a laser. You then need to create a channel to bring your goal to you. Casting spells for a wish doesn’t work because when you send out that energy, it doesn’t know where to go. There are a million things to wish for, so if you are not focused, the energy scatters, weakens, and doesn’t know what channel to take. It becomes useless.
Another crucial factor for casting spells is psychology. You have to see yourself as already having achieved the goal. To cast a spell for wishes, you must see yourself as wishing for your goal. Otherwise, you end up putting yourself in a perpetual state of wishing and never having.
What Does Work:
In order to cast a spell that works, don’t use one for wishing at all. Focus the spell on the actual need or desire that you have. And again, as mentioned above, it needs to be something realistic—not some achievement that works outside the laws of nature.
Use Your Head!
Even Witchcraft and spell casting are still subject to the rules of nature. When planning your spell casting and magical workings, keep these tips and caveats in mind for success. As nice as it would be to merely wave a wand to grant our wishes, it’s just not possible.

Yes it's possible to cast spells on others... normally I don't try to manipulate others without permission unless I deem it necessary but there are times when it is necessary so it's up to you to judge.
For me I'd do a simple freezer spell in this case. Take a picture of the person (alone, no one else in it), or write their name and dob on a paper if you can't get a picture. Write the issue on the back of the pic/paper (whatever they're rushing). The important thing is to really envision them slowing down. Roll it up, put it in a jar of water & put it into the freezer. You could add an acorn to the jar if you find one (acorns are associated with patience, since you need patience for a tree to grow).
Leave it in the freezer as long as necessary and just forget about it.
This is simple folk magic so really it all comes down to the energy you put into it, which is why you need to really focus on/envision your goal as you're assembling the jar. Hope this helps. Blessings.

I once cast a spell to put a hex on a “friend” who wronged me back in high school and she developed a severe form of diabetes within a month and we were only 17, and no, she was not obese and she was a vegetarian with a healthy diet. More recently, I cast a spell of prosperity and wealth for my family and my husband and I received an exorbitant amount of money within six months. Magic can alter and manipulate the world around you without a doubt. Needless to say I was mortified by that hex I cast and I no longer dabble with “dark” magic. I was young and stupid. I learned my lesson. Be careful what you wish for, people.

I've been thinking about this for months and I'm so scared in case my Art has changed.

If anyone could go to a website, get instructions to light a candle and say a few words, then make themselves a fairy or a mermaid or dragon or even a cat or wolf, etc... then everyone would be doing it, wouldn't they?
People lie on the internet. When it comes to Witchcraft, the kind of people who say stuff like that don't practice the Craft; not real Witchcraft. They just have a rich fantasy life and are seeking attention.
A lot of people wish they could feel more powerful and had more power to change their lives like in stories.... they are the ones perpetuating the fantasy stuff.
Mackenzie Sage Wright (author) on April 24, 2018:
Hi Angelic... yeah. People on the internet say a lot of things, it can be confusing. But it's like how there is the Easter Bunny and then there are real rabbits; there are the fantasy things about Witchcraft and then the reality.
In reality, no, there is no way to physically transform ourselves into a different species. In real Witchcraft, we might use a meditation to mentally put ourselves into that other animal's state of mind so we can sort of borrow their energy for a time being. Like if you had to carry a heavy load for a long distance, you might meditate on being a pack mule to help you get through it, your consciousness shifts and it's amazing how powerful that experience will be. But no, you can't physically turn into an animal, or another person, and people who say you can are lying.
Witchcraft is an excellent way to help us get through life and achieve our goals, and I don't know where those lines are; I have seen some pretty amazing stuff happen, but people who say they lit a candle and said the right words and 'poof' something completely against nature happened, they're usually lying, or sometimes delusional.
Angelic150 on April 23, 2018:
Why do people still do the transformation spells an are they really fake? Ive heard from so mucho people that it works an that they are real.

UnknownWerewolf, perhaps adopt a puppy as a familiar if that's an option for you. Just make sure to adjust your practice accordingly, because some rituals are dangerous for our furry friends!
Another avenue you could look into is spirit shops. You might be able to find a werewolf/wolf spirit there. I don't know of any reputable shops that are free, though, so be prepared to dole out some cash if that's the route you choose.

Hello; I wouldn't recommend trying to summon a physical wild animal for a companion in life. Even if wolves are your spirit animal, it doesn't mean a wild wolf can't be dangerous, to you or others around, and it's illegal to own them in many places.
You can summon the spirit of a wolf to come to you... it won't be like having a live animal at your side, but he will be there. I have invited one into my home to guard and protect it: https://exemplore.com/wicca-witchcraft/Magic-for-J...

Mackenzie Sage Wright (author) on June 28, 2017:
Hi There; sorry you've had to deal with so much confusion. Let me see if I can clarify:
1) only you can do it:
Nope, not true at all in my experience. People can cast spells on each other's behalf. It doesn't matter what the actual goal is. Certain goals don't have rules of their own. What's going to matter is the skill of the spell caster; if you're not skilled, someone very skilled will do a better job than you. If you are skilled, might as well do it for yourself.
2) no spells will work over oceans, only land ?
That's one I've never heard. I can't even see how that would work. I can't imagine the philosophy behind this. Distance is not very relevant in magic when it comes to energy, which works on a different plane than the physical. All that matters is that you are able to effectively link your goal to your target, which is done in the mind of the spellcaster.
3) a spell caster overseas would not work
All that matters is how good the spell caster is. Doesn't matter how far they are, if there are any obstacles to you achieving your goal, it would be the same as if you were in the same room or around the world. Again, not sure where they're getting this idea from or what they're basing it on.
4) psychics readings can effect spells ??
That's like saying peeking through the oven window to check on your cake changes how the cake is going to come out. I would not agree with this at all, and don't even understand what this philosophy would have been based on.
5) a return of lover spell
I personally do not recommend a spell that requires you to manipulate someone's affections and hold them in emotional bondage. If the only way to make your lover want to be with you is to force it or tie him down with magic or chains or ropes or blackmail, whatever, there's probably not very much hope for the relationship.
Remember a love spell can only force people to feel intensely; it can't resolve the problems that kept you apart in the first place. Forcing someone else to be with you can just intensify those problems.
If you lost contact and want to get in contact with your lover again, you could do a spell to help you cross paths. This spell here: https://exemplore.com/wicca-witchcraft/Full-Moon-C...
I prefer it because it's not forcing feelings on anyone's part; it just arranges it so you can bump into each other again if you've been out of contact. Then it lets nature take its course. It may or may not work out.
Or an even better spell would be to draw a compatible lover to yourself: https://exemplore.com/wicca-witchcraft/Valentines-...
That way you don't put all your eggs in one basket, so to speak. If your ex and you are right for each other, it'll help you find your way back to each other. If someone else would be better for you, it will help to lead you to that person. Basically, you cover all your bases.
If you really want to put a spell to try and take away your ex's free will, then I'm afraid I can't help you. Either way I wish you the best of luck.
6) free Spell sites and also have copped a scammer or two
A lot of websites that promise you the moon are, sadly, scamming you. If you're looking for a spell caster it will be difficult to find a legit one, but here's a good rule of thumb: they usually don't advertise big websites with testimonials and spam message board. Usually it's word-of-mouth whispered around by satisfied clients. They don't make 100% guarantees or boast of their power; they don't have to.
I'm afraid I don't recommend spellcasters because I personally have not used anyone's services, so I can't vouch for them.
Hope that helps!

Hi Gabrielle... just study Witchcraft.
There are no real different kinds... people give names (often names of colors) to their preferred style or focused intent, and that's fine if they want to do that.
But the Craft all works on the same principle regardless of what people name their personal expression of it.

I appreciate you adding your insights for others who might stumble upon this article as it may help them more than I did.
Christy (aka anon) on August 14, 2014:
Oh I totally understand where you're coming from and I don't feel like your opinions are rude in any way btw :) Since I don't believe one can know all there is to know about magic and/or how it truly works either, we only have our own experiences, theories, etc. to go by- and I make room for others' as well. Thank you for your open dialogue instead of being dismissive.
Trust me, coming from a background in science-I myself understand the disbelief of bending the laws of physics. I haven't changed my hair color, weight and/or basically any other physical feature via magic and I understand the "fluff" (for lack of a better word) behind casting such spells. I will say I don't consider what I did a spell, per se...since it was solely mental, but I still get the gist of not casting these types of spells. I don't cast ones like you mentioned in your article. Perhaps the change of eye color for a short period of time isn't quite as drastic as a permanent change and/or an extremely drastic (losing 20lbs in one day or increasing height by many inches for instance) change, therefore appearing more of a possibility to one from a mental standpoint.
Mackenzie Sage Wright (author) on August 10, 2014:
Hi anon. I do think we have the power to manifest things... I just don't believe everything can be manifested by magic. I believe magic, like everything in nature, has its own limitations. One of the limits I believe it has is in breaking laws of physics. This is my experience-- I have never seen magic actually change an eye color, hair color, make someone thinner, taller, shorter, or make them into another creature other than human.
I agree you could probably convince someone that your eye colors change, but that perception would exist in the person's mind-- an illusion. I don't personally think the pigment in your eyes can actually be changed by will, or that it's something the camera would capture (if it's a person's illusion, the camera shouldn't capture it at all, as the camera can't be swayed by belief). Having spent some time as a photographer I know how eye colors can look easily different in photos, even just by small differences in the room lighting or the shadows cast by the angles of someone's face or the color of one's shirt. I had a friend who's eyes would look a totally different just by putting her hair back (the roots were blonde but the tips were red; the blond hair made her eyes look amber, the reddish hair near the tips made them look greener). I am not going to judge your experience because I wasn't there, I didn't take the photos or evaluate the conditions under which they were taken. While I've seen a lot of claims-- and I'm sure some people sincerely believe it (maybe even contributing to their own power of belief, or the power of perception of others) -- I have yet to see anyone successfully change the physical pigment.
I'm not going to try and convince you either, I respect that people have to make their own calls on such things, and I respect that your experiences differ from my own.
And I agree, one person cannot probably ever know all magic's secrets. I don't claim to be that person, anyway. I write my articles based on my opinion and experiences, which I say on my profile page are sometimes controversial opinions. I understand that others disagree with me, in part or in whole, and I encourage people to read a variety of opinions and formulate their own.
Again, thanks for your comments, good to 'see' you.
anon on August 03, 2014:
But do you think we have the power to manifest things ourselves? I don't think any one single person can accurately define exactly how magic works. Consider in different cultures and religions where magic is practiced, there's no one universally agreed way. If you can manipulate energy and everything is energy (and we're already defying the laws of natural science in many forms of magic), it doesn't really seem impossible. If you believe the power resides in my/the ability to manipulate another's thoughts into believing what I want them to see, as opposed to manifesting the change, wouldn't that seem like the tougher of the two (manipulating others' thoughts and in some ways their free will- their ability to see what they should compared to what I want them to- if I'm using your theory)? Btw, I did take the pictures in the exact same condition. No makeup, same clothes, same room, no filter and back to back to back pictures from the same angle. I understand why you're skeptical and I'm not trying to convince you I did it- just curious as to why you'd see that type of magic as more difficult.
Mackenzie Sage Wright (author) on August 01, 2014:
Thanks so much for your kind comments, I appreciate it. My goal is to help people gain a more in-depth understanding of Wicca and to bring in different ideas, so I'm very flattered by your comment.
As far as the eye-color changing, I don't believe it and in 25 years have yet to see one person actually accomplish it. It wasn't even "a thing" until that silly movie The Craft came out. It defies my understanding of Witchcraft and how magic works in the universe. The closest I believe anyone can come to it is 'the power of belief' can make someone think their eyes are changed. Eye color can look different colors under different lighting conditions and with different clothes/colors surrounding you as well. I can't tell you what your experiences were, you have to judge for yourself, but this is my opinion on the topic.
Thanks for stopping by!
anon on July 31, 2014:
Btw, I did want to add that I do very much actually enjoy your posts. I think they're often more informative than most bloated 101 books out today. The way you describe how to raise energy, spell cast in general, cast a circle, etc. I just know what I and others around me have seen me literally manifest. A car also comes to mind. We needed a second one really bad and I cast the spell w/a specific idea of the type of car I thought would be reasonably possible (nothing brand new, over 10K, etc.), left it open as to how we would acquire it w/o harm to another, and a month later my brother-in-law gave us his car. It was already paid for, he wouldn't take any money for it-said he felt compelled (by the lord- he's a Christian and his beliefs are obv different than mine making it all the more amazing). But I def like the way you present your info.
anon on July 31, 2014:
Actually it is quite possible to change your eye color. I've done it several times. My husband and daughter noticed right away (w/no priming) as did my best friend. First time it lasted a day and took a bit of meditation. Second time I did it- took about a min of focus. It was during sex and my husband noticed immediately. Second time also changed my eye color from dark blue/grey, to turquoise, then to dark green w/a hint of yellow. I took pics and everything. Ironically that one lasted almost 3 days instead of one.
Mackenzie Sage Wright (author) on April 02, 2014:
That's fine mnoi. You're free to disagree with whatever you wish. If you think you can turn yourself into a fish or werewolf, then don't mind my skepticism.
As for me having hope-- well, you'd have to be more specific. I don't have hope in things like mermaids and lottery fixes, no. But I don't need hope in those things; reality is good enough.
Thanks for your comment!

Mackenzie Sage Wright (author) on January 28, 2014:
Hi Billy, thanks. Coming from you that's quite a compliment. Funny you should ask that now, as I've had a recent revelation.
Actually when I first started HP I was publishing sporadically. I gained a few followers and got little traffic, and mostly from HP followers interested in the topic. Then I got sick over the summer and didn't publish anything, my traffic was low already but went to almost nil. Then I started publishing more regularly and my traffic picked up-- nothing great, but steady. And it seems I got about equal views from HP and the search engines. It would go up and down-- I get more traffic around the holidays when people are looking for "Wiccan" ways to celebrate.
Then I read someone's advice on the forums to go to Google and Bing and confirm my profile and set it to 'web crawl' more frequently. I did that last week and my traffic from Google and Bing have doubled in the last 3 days! I don't understand that stuff very well (when I work I usually just write for people, I don't mess around with their websites or marketing) but it seemed to really do the trick.
For anyone interested these are the instructions I was told to follow: https://hubpages.com/community/Learning-Center-How...
I guess the next few weeks will be very telling, which is why I'm publishing a hub almost every day now to try to keep up the momentum, and I'm trying to follow HP's recommendation for creating "stellar hubs".

I have written several times about the importance of finding a niche as a writer and developing that niche over time. Since this is quite obviously a very specialized niche, I'm wondering how you are doing? Not in terms of money, but do you see your views growing from Google? Are you starting to see your niche noticed by more people? I hope so because you are a very good writer.
