I would think that all witches make forays into other 'systems' or traditions and there's nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, it would be boring if we all stuck to the same thing. I have ventured down certain paths, only to realize it's not for me... for example, I thought I would like to learn runes, but they didn't hold my interest like tarot does.
Books? Well Lisa Chamberlain is my favorite author recommendation for beginners and intermediates. For those more advanced, then Christopher Penczak has a number of books that might interest you. Another one who writes along specialized lines is Melusine Draco - she has one called, 'Traditional Witchcraft for the Seashore', which might cause you to stray to the sea a little more often.
