Is Reincarnation Possible?
An example of possible reincarnation!
Reincarnation is Not Transmigration
This was written January 28. 2012. Reincarnation is different than transmigration (according to an article but not the dictionary). The latter is a popular belief in India.
It is the belief that a soul moves through all the creatures up the evolutionary ladder until they become the crown of creation-- the human being.
This article is about reincarnation or past lives. This is where a soul leaves a person when he dies and enters another human being at birth or conception.
If you want to jump into this information right away, go to the 7 minute video below. At about 5 minutes it tells the story of a woman (Barbro Karlen)(she is speaking) who remembered being Anne Frank in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Now this woman was a little girl and she was saying that she was Anne Frank to her parents. They lived in Sweden and information about Anne Frank and her book had not reached Sweden yet.A few years later it reached Sweden so the parents took this girl to Anne Frank's house. She knew how to get there and said that they had changed the steps.
This is a great story! Here is a webpage with the full story of Barbro Karlen and Anne Frank. It tells how Anne Frank's last living relative wanted to meet Barbro even though he does not believe in reincarnation. They met and talked for 2 hours and became friends. This is on a website with many stories like this.
Great News! December 21, 2013
Rachael emailed me back on Facebook (Thank you Mark Zuckerberg for creating Facebook). She gave me another site to where her great story is still online. So to see her full story go to Reincarnation and Soul Families: The Cayce Connection (on Reality Sandwich).
In the article that was up she explained how she realized this in meditation and realized that her husband was Edgar Cayce's grandfather. It was a great story so it is too bad that it is not up anymore. She mentioned odd habits of Edgar Cayce's grandfather and her husband like they both smoked cigars. In case something happens to the above webpage it says:
Rachael Ehrlund is an artist and spiritual intuitive, devoted to helping others on their journey to self discovery. She is the reincarnated sister of Edgar Cayce, and is married to her soul mate, the reincarnation of Cayce's grandfather.
It also has a picture of her. She mentions soulmate above. Some people use this word to mean someone destined to be with you until you both die (popular in pick-up lines). What soulmates actually means is that the 2 souls are very close and have known each other in different lifetimes in different ways. Like a child that you have now may have been your mother in another life. You have more than one soulmate.
The first video at the bottom of this has Barbro Karlen as she relates her childhood past life memories of being Holocaust victim Anne Frank. Barbro was a child prodigy writer, much like Anne, and Barbro has the same facial features as Anne. Barbro published her first book at age 12. For a recent story similar to this see: 12 Year Old Arizona Girl, Anivarya Kumar, Has a Published Book. This book (novel) is about reincarnation. My mother loved the saying: "Truth is stranger than fiction."
There are many cases of people recalling past lives as humans. There is even a movie with Barbara Streisand from the 1970s called On a Clear Day You Can See Forever . It is about a psychologist hypnotising her and she remembers past lives. It is fictional. I did not want to write this article at this time but needed something like this to write another article about why bad things happen to good people.
The idea of transmigration is popular in India. But the main scripture in India or Hindu belief is the Mahabharata (the great war). In it whenever they introduce a new character, they explain what their past life connections were with the other people. It is not about them having been different animals like a toad.
Do You Stop Existing After Death
As far as the possibility of reincarnation, one must first believe in something that exists after the person dies like a soul or a spirit. This is the case with the Christian religion. Otherwise someone could not experience something after they die. The bible makes references to past lives and Christians used to talk about it. But why do some have a strong belief against it?
You Will be Punished By Death
Would you like to be cursed and excommunicated? Anathema-- a ban or curse solemnly pronounced by ecclesiastical authority and accompanied by excommunication. From this webpage:
History records that the early Christine church believed in Reincarnation and of the souls journey back to oneness with God. This all changed by Emperial decree some 500 plus years after the death of Christ.
Emperor Justinian in 545 A.D. was able to apply the full power of Rome and his authority to stop the belief in reincarnation. He forced the ruling cardinals to draft a papal decree stating that anyone who believes that souls come from God and return to God will be punished by death. The actual decree stated:
“If anyone asserts the fabulous preexistence of souls, and shall assert the monstrous restoration which follows from it: let him be anathema. (The Anathemas against Origen), attached to the decrees of the Fifth Ecumenical Council, A.D. 545, in Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, 2d ser., 14: 318).”
Asia and Greece
Asian Buddhists believe in reincarnation not transmigration. There used to be a lot more Buddhists, but in China the communists outlawed it. Also in the Indonesia area many Buddhists have become Muslims. Jet Li was declared a national treasure of China and he is a Buddhist. He was not declared a national treasure because of his movies but because he won the national fighting contests there several years in a row. Hundreds of years before Jesus, Socrates taught that the most important thing in life is the immortal soul. This is what he meant when he said "Know thyself." They executed him for his teachings. Pythagoras also taught about the soul.
Brian Weiss M.D. (Psychiatrist)(best selling author)
After the above fictional movie was made a psychiatrist, Dr. Brian Weiss had a patient in 1980 with many problems. He hypnotized her and she recalled past lives. He graduated Columbia University (an Ivy League College just like Yale) (his undergraduate college). Wikipedia says:
Weiss graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine in 1970, completing an internship in internal medicine at the New York University Medical Center then returning to Yale for a two-year residency in psychiatry.
Wikipedia does not have much about him but there is a criticism that it was not very scientific and that people can imagine that stuff. But Dr Weiss did not intend on having this happen. It just happened. In it she is under and an ascended being spoke through her about Dr. Weiss' son that died as a baby. She was never told about this.
Reading the book is definitely an adventure. Also similar to the scripture mentioned above she was able to recognize people in these past lives as people that are in her current life. People actually have many soul mates. She (Weiss's patient) had a lot of healing take place from this work. Also not mentioned above is that many psychiatrists were learning how to do this regression with past lives since it is so effective.
At the time the above book was written (1988), Dr. Weiss was Chairman of Psychiatry at the Mt Sinai Medical Center in Miami and clinical professor of psychitatry at University of Miami. His waiting list of psychiatrists that wanted to learn this was 6 months long. One of the psychiatrists that learned this said that he does not believe in past lives but by people doing this and imagining past lives, it is a more effective therapy than anything else.
The back of the book has great testimonials. Here is one of them: "Dr. Weiss integrates concepts of traditional psychotherapy and the exploration of his patient's spiritual unconscious. My view of myself and others will never be quite the same." -- Joel Rubinstein, M.D. former instructor of psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School now in private practice.
New York Times Article
Here is a 2010 article about this in the New York Times . Like in the book, it has an example of a professor who's wife used to be (in a past life) a cook that he was in love with but he could not do anything about it since she was married. Note that Cornell University is another Ivy League college (there are 8 of them and they also include Harvard and Princeton). It says:
According to data released last year by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, a quarter of Americans [25%] now believe in reincarnation [includes Julia Roberts].
In one of his past lives, Dr. Paul DeBell believes, he was a caveman. The gray-haired Cornell-trained psychiatrist has a gentle, serious manner, and his appearance, together with the generic shrink décor of his office — leather couch, granite-topped coffee table — makes this pronouncement seem particularly jarring.
He [Dr Brian Weiss] is carrying on the pioneering research of his mentor, Dr. Ian Stevenson, who beginning in the 1960s collected more than 2,000 accounts of children between the ages of 2 and 7 who seemed to remember previous lives vividly without the help of hypnosis.
Below is a book by Ian Stevenson M.D. about reincarnation. Amazon.com says about this book:
Children who claim to remember a previous life have been found in many parts of the world, particularly in the Buddhist and Hindu countries of South Asia, among the Shiite peoples of Lebanon and Turkey, the tribes of West Africa, and the American northwest. Stevenson has collected over 2,600 reported cases of past-life memories of which 65 detailed reports have been published. Specific information from the children's memories has been collected and matched with the data of their claimed former identity, family, residence, and manner of death.
Birthmarks or other physiological manifestations have been found to relate to experiences of the remembered past life, particularly violent death. Writing as a specialist in psychiatry and as a world-renowned scientific investigator of reported paranormal events, Stevenson asks us to suspend our Western tendencies to disbelieve in reincarnation and consider the reality of the burgeoning record of cases now available.
Ivy League Colleges
The Ivy League colleges are the oldest colleges in the United States. Wikipedia says:
The Ivy League is a collegiate athletic conference composed of sports teams from eight private institutions of higher education in the Northeastern United States. The conference name is also commonly used to refer to those eight schools as a group. The eight institutions are Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University.
A university has more than one college. The oldest college in the country is Harvard University. The oldest university in the country is University of Pennsylvania. It became a university when it created the first medical school in the country. It's founder is Benjamin Franklin. He also discovered electricity that made computers, refrigeration and many other things possible.
Dianetics and Scientology
This article is excellent and recent so it is worth reading. For more on Ian Stevenson M.D. see Scientific Proof of Reincarnation. Two of the books above are by him. Also do you think that Tom Cruise and John Travolta are crazy or insane? They do Scientology and are Scientologists. L Ron Hubbard created a way for people to get rid of all traumas from your life including while you were in the womb. He wrote the book Dianetics about when this is done you are in a state called clear .
Then people started telling him that people were remembering traumas from before they were born. Now being a sensible Western person, he told them to just ignore these crazy imaginations. That nonsense is not mentioned in his book Dianetics . But after ignoring it many times he decided to have fun and let the person tell him this ridiculous stuff.
So he does that (person tells about a past life trauma) and this person recovered from all these problems that he had been trying to help him with for months. So they start doing it more and then you have Scientology. The state of clear is when you then start working on traumas from past lives. I have written a more detailed version of the above called How Dianetics Became Scientology.
Please note that I am not a Scientologist and they have public relations people writing their ads. So if I was, I would not be allowed to write this. Scientology is similar to the U.S. government. It is a great idea. But the saying is "Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely." By John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, first Baron Acton (1834–1902). Sometimes wrongly attributed to William Pitt, the Elder, The Earl of Chatham and British Prime Minister from 1766 to 1778 who said something similar.
Can A Soul Split
I have not mentioned any of my experiences on past lives yet. I may put a short one on here but I have some long stories. Is it possible that you and another person were Mozart in a past life? Dr Weiss mentions this on an hour video. Also I believed this before I heard him. Also I had this experience with a woman dealing with this. He and I believe that a soul can split into 2 souls. He mentioned how there are a lot more people on this planet than ever before so where did they come from. He has other explanations besides a soul splitting for this.
My Personal Experience With Reincarnation
Here is an article that I wrote later that tells about my personal experience and other things with reincarnation: Experiences with Reincarnation, Past Lives and Love. It has a picture on it of the woman that I believe was my grandmother who died when I was 6 years old with a link to her yoga studio. I have been doing yoga since age 12 and her husband has been doing yoga since age 12.
After the above article was written, I met a woman on Twitter (Marika) and we emailed each other. I went to her blog and loved her writing. Now it was like reading what she wrote was putting a spell on me. The more I read, the more ♥love♥ that I felt. So I went to sleep and hoped that I might dream about it.
So I had this dream where I was being given an award for writing. In the dream I did not know who I was but I was saying that Emily Brontë was the best writer and that she is where I got all of my writing inspiration from. So I had to look her up and see who I was in the dream. It explained that her older sister, Charlotte, saw Emily's poems and adored them. This convinced Charlotte to write a book with her poems and the poems of Emily and another sister of hers.
So I figure that in the dream I was Charlotte Brontë and being recognized for writing Jane Eyre. Now in this dream I totally adored Emily as a writer (she wrote Wuthering Heights). Both books were published in 1847. So I write to Marika and all I say was that I had a dream and how does she feel about Emily Brontë. She writes back and is freaked out!
She wants to know if I am a hacker and hacked into her computer or if I am some kind of super telepath! Marika said that the book Jane Eyre is all about her, but she was not even alive yet. This was a big deal in her life.
So I told her about my dream. Now the reason that Charlotte was giving all this credit to Emily (in my dream) was because that book was written from Charlotte's strong love for Emily. This inspired me to write an article on writing called The Incredible, Magical Art of Writing. In this article I tell this story in more detail and it has a link to this woman's blog. This is an example of a soulmate. Please note that souls do not have a gender. Only the physical bodies have a gender.
As far as practical benefits, Scientologists saw that (using their terminolology) people could have attention units trapped in a past traumatic event that happened in this lifetime or in a previous lifetime. This prevents those attention units from being in the present.
But when they remove the trauma from that event, these attention units are freed and return to the present time. For more on this from different people like Eckhart Tolle, Buddha and others see Is the Key to Happiness Being in the Present. This article also tells about the meditation that I have been doing for decades.
