It’s important to remember that “UFO” just means “unidentified flying object.” It doesn’t necessarily mean that the origin of the object is an alien one. After all, if you don’t know what it is you’re seeing, it could be a bird, a plane, or even a satellite. The thing is that is is “unidentified”… by you. But there are things that might be unknown to one observer and known to another. That’s why I think that it’s not bad when folks on social media post what they think is a UFO, even if it ends up being something very terrestrial. It’s not a “fake” — it’s simply not understood by that particular observer.
Take this strange object, recently filmed hovering and rotating in the sky.
Initially, the video appears to show a helicopter in pursuit of a strange hovering object. Upon first glance, it appears to be large spherical body surrounded by smaller rings and satellites that are making a wide rotation around it. But on closer inspection, one wonders…is the helicopter approaching this object, or dangling it from a wire?
It turns out that it’s the latter. The helicopter is part of a project towing a piece of electromagnetic surveying equipment. The technique is widely used in exploration for mineral and energy resources, for identifying potential groundwater resources, for mapping geological structures, and for salinity investigations.
Because this is TikTok, there’s no way of knowing what kind of survey this helicopter-device combo was performing, but, rest assured: as strange as it looks, it’s not aliens…
