Most cord cutting ceremonies are to get rid of a former romantic partner or some other person no longer wanted in one’s life, but this witch has modified the practice to cut away from her old self and create space for the personal growth she wishes to see in herself.

We all want to implement personal growth and betterment of ourself, but in order to do that we need to let go of the old self to make room for the new. This can be hard because change is sometimes scary, and as this witch points out - we don’t know what is on the other side of change because we haven’t been there yet! Ritualizing the conscious choice to move forward in a new direction can help clarify and ease that change.
The cord cutting requires a black candle for things you want to let go and a white candle for things you want to bring in to your self. The candles are prepped by drizzling sun oil on them but coconut oil works just as well. The black candle is then dusted with dragon’s blood and the white candle with sandalwood. The two candles are then set upright in a fire safe dish with a looped cord around them about an inch below the wick.
When the candles are ready to be lit there will be two pieces of paper needed. On one will be things to let go and the other will have things to let in. Once the candles are lit the papers are to be set on fire with the corresponding candle and then dropped next to the candle to burn away. Then all that is left is to wait for the candles to burn down to the cord for it to catch fire and burn away, releasing the trappings of the old and welcoming in the new.
Some recommend performing this cord cutting on October 31st but it can also be used whenever one recognizes the changing of the year, or changing of the self.
