What to Put in Your Book of Shadows During the Christmas Season

'Tis the season to curl up with a comfy blanket, warm drink, and a notebook.

Do you have Book of Shadows envy every time you scroll through social media? Fear not, we’re here to help with plenty of ideas for you to use during the holiday season. This video is jam-packed with inspiration for Yule symbols, colors, incense, crystals, herbs, and more.

If you don’t have your own Book of Shadows, now is the perfect time to start. That seems counterintuitive as society has an unspoken yet ingrained rule that the year’s end is when we finish things and new projects are started with the new year and the traditional resolutions, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Pagan traditions often focus on the cyclical nature of things and new cycles start all the time. You can start your new year goals early, like getting a jumpstart on the year. Changing perspective from starting at the end and shifting to viewing it as getting ahead can reinvigorate determination that supports a feeling of success as soon as the clock switches to midnight because you are already succeeding.

So go ahead and grab a notebook and start with Yule, there are no rules against it! Many of the traditional Yule herbs are also a common feature of modern Christmas decorations and those new to the practice may find surprising meanings behind their boughs of pine and doorway mistletoe. Many crystals are also associated with this time of year like snowflake obsidian which is a volcanic glass that creates beautiful snowflake patterns around certain mineral inclusions.

Remember, your Book of Shadows doesn’t have to be perfect as long as it sparks joy for you while creating it.
