There are few sounds more heartening than a baby’s gleeful laugh. The famous first line of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan even reads, “When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.” So whatever one can do to make a baby laugh is generally viewed as a good thing.

And that includes when the baby is laughing at a ghost. The woman in the video thinks her child is regularly being entertained by the spirit of her deceased brother.

In the video, we see an adorable baby rolling around on the carpet, smiling happily and giggling. Her mother asks her, “who are you laughing at?” She locks eyes with the mother, but says nothing and in a moment, she turns away to look at her invisible source of amusement, and starts to laugh again.

In the caption, the mother explains that her brother, Alex, died a few days before she learned she was pregnant. They named the baby Allie in his honor.

Many people believe that babies and young children have special insight into the spirit world, because the veil of reality has not yet drawn as tightly around them as it does in adulthood. Perhaps all children can see ghosts, and the “imaginary friends” so many kids possess are actually the spirits of their ancestors keeping them company from beyond.
