Revisiting The Celestine Prophecy
James Redfield published The Celestine Prophecy in 1993, but he never expected it to become so successful. The book discussed nine spiritual truths to help mankind live in peace and harmony, evolving to live in a solely spiritual state of being. Because the plot line is so thin, and Redfield did not bother to develop the characters, this is not a book review.
The man called The Hero in the first and subsequent three books of the series, learns from a female friend that both the Peruvian government and the Church are trying to suppress manuscripts containing serious spiritual insights. It is imperative that this information is given to the masses. Within two hours, The Hero is already on a plane to Peru, where he meets a man named Wil, also looking for this manuscript, which is found and revealed in pieces. I have read the last book of the series, The Twelfth Insight, but decided that it would be best to cut to the chase and discuss the truths. They are all worthwhile insights, and definitely worth pondering.
The First Insight
There will soon be a massive transformation in human society, during which people will shift towards a more spiritual culture on Earth. People will become more restless, have glimpses that life could be better, and begin searching for answers. So many will feel this sense of wanting to follow their instincts; it will reach what Redfield called a critical mass. The first insight occurs when we have meaningful coincidences, or what is called synchronicity, and feel as if we are being guided by an intelligent source (I call it The All, you could call it God, or if you are an atheist or agnostic, these truths could possibly be connected as part of scientific theory). People will spend more time pondering the mysterious processes that guide human life on our planet. Life has always been filled with meaningful coincidences, but people have not always paid attention to them.
Appreciate Beauty in All Forms
The Second Insight
The human race has spent the last five hundred years mostly concerned with material things and technology, worried about survival and comfort. This preoccupation of the Modern Age was necessary, as there were many useful discoveries and inventions. Humans conquered the Earth, but wasted her resources. We have medicines, but still have disease. People can no longer just view life from the spectrum of their own generation, but must take the longer view. It is time to awaken to the real purpose people are supposed to fulfill on Earth. As one goes back to look at known history, it is seen that there were many religious rebellions, and in the midst of all this technology and retelling of history, mankind lost its sense of spirituality. The time has come for a New World View, one in which we honor and respect the Earth, view our universe’s energies as sacred, value each other as equals, and follow one religion: The Truth.
The Third Insight
Einstein proved that all energy is moving in patterns, and our universe is not made of big chunks of stuff, but of moving energy. Energy radiates from everything, including ourselves. Chi or kundalini energies flow from us, which we can learn to project by intense focus in a precise direction. When a loved one is ill, you can meditate and picture the person in your mind, then project or “send” protective white or orange light to that person. Most psychics use orange light for protection, white is for love or illness.
This is the same kind of energy a prayer group sends out to a sick friend or someone suffering a great loss, and what a Catholic person is doing when they think of someone and say the Rosary. It works, too. I learned how to project energies, or these bright white or orange lights to my friends and family, at precise times when I knew they were in difficult circumstances, and the more psychic ones tell me they feel more secure and confident in the situation.
Redfield believes that when people are in beautiful places, such as old growth forests or beautiful mountain top vistas, they see more sharply and precisely, and are able to see auras. So quietly enjoying nature for twenty minutes daily can aid us in seeing these energy fields, and connecting with them can enhance our appreciation of beauty, making it possible to feel more loving. I cannot say with certainty that being in a beautiful place helps me see auras more, or gives me more energy. But when I’m on a beach in Jamaica, I feel calm and happy, and if I think of someone, the thought is bound to be a positive one!
Giving and Receiving Energy
The Fourth Insight
People actually compete for psychic energy, or try to feel good at other people’s expense. This struggle for power happens when one person tries to dominate or manipulate another person. The dominator feels more powerful, but takes power away from the weaker person, so much that the other person may not be able to fight back. Bullies do this, or parents who dominate their children by not letting them verbally express themselves. This competition for energy is a big cause of conflict between people. There is plenty of energy in the universe, we do not have to “steal” it from others.
When people pretend friendship, and then criticize or try to undermine you, it weakens you. This is actually psychic violence. This pattern of “stealing” energy from others is something learned in families, usually when one parent is an alcoholic or abusive, and it will continue onward to the next generation if the one who was treated in this way is not strong enough to break this cycle.
When you are conversing with someone you like, and are happy, then you are voluntarily giving away positive energy. This is empowering to both parties, but the one giving the most energy has to be careful not to deplete theirs. When a party is trying to psychically dominate you, it is the same as “taking your mind away.” This is not the same as losing an intellectual debate, you won’t have the mental clarity you need to defend your ideas. Always walk away from anything or anybody that weakens you!
Nature Calms Us and Gives Us Energy
The Fifth Insight
When you appreciate beauty and love others, you share psychic energy. When you can relax enough to meditate or pray in a beautiful place, you may have what is called a mystic experience, where you feel euphoria, security, and confidence. Mystics of many religions describe this sensation. During the 20th century, people spoke of the possibility of such a state as attainable, but at this time many people are able to have these experiences on their own. In this state we can tap the energy of the universe at will, so we don’t have to “take” it from another person.
Use food as a source of energy for an example. It’s a doorway, and you appreciate taste. The reason many people pray before eating isn’t just to be thankful for food, but makes eating a holy experience, allowing its energy to enter your body. Food is but one step. Once your personal energy is increased, you are more sensitive to energy in all things. Then you can learn how to take this energy and absorb it into yourself without eating. All things around us have energy, their own special kind. This is why some places have more energy than others. So if you allow yourself to be open, connect, and be appreciative, you will feel the sensation of “filling yourself up with energy.”
Calm Your Mind
The Sixth Insight
It is important to understand any issues you had in childhood, so you can learn how they affected you and overcome the negative ones. Your parents unwittingly left you with one basic life question, determined by your relationship with them. Once a person comprehends the reason they were born to a particular set of parents, in a particular situation, they can more clearly understand why their lives took the twists and turns that it did. When you clear the mystery of your past, you are ready to find your true spiritual mission.
When you figure it out, you will be centered on your life path, and equipped to solve the smaller problems in your life that prevent you from the happiness you deserve. Life’s meaning is connected to transcending our past conditioning so we can move forward. We are all on an evolutionary search to find our self-enhancing spirituality, all through life. Once you get adept at this, your intuition will greatly improve, you will feel more watchful and alert, beginning to move where your instincts lead you. Stop when necessary to build up your energy. Try to stay in a state of love when you interact with others. This will cause your rate of vibration to quicken, which means you are operating at a higher spiritual level.
The Seventh Insight
Once you know your personal mission, you are caught in a flow that further enhances the amount of coincidences that will help guide you to your destiny. We begin with questions, have dreams and daydreams, and intuition leads us to the answers. They are often provided by chance meetings with others who share wisdom we need and can use. This flow opens doors that help our mission unfold more easily. Constantly ask yourself what is the next wise step that should be taken, and be guided by the positive things you learn. Visualization techniques are very useful at this stage of your development.
The Eighth Insight
Avoid being addicted to another person for energy. Romance partly explains this, when two people are in the stage where they can’t find out enough about each other, and talk for hours. That’s a great time. But you can never get your whole sense of worth or take all your energy from one person. You want love, but cannot lose your connection to yourself.
We also vibrate faster by trying to be uplifting towards others. You know what a drag that person who complains all day at work is, and how it can actually feel like a drain on you? Or your friend that calls every day to talk about her problems for an hour, but never takes steps to solve them? Children need experiences where adults include them in conversation, without baby talk, especially if the conversation is about the child, in order to grow and feel secure. We should never try to make children feel inferior when we correct them.
Never have more children than you have time to give attention to, as sometimes big families are glorified. My mother in law was one of nine children, and I thought I was marrying into a big, close family. Then I found out the jealousies, the games or dramas they all played to get attention, and how dysfunctional they were, though on the outside they were the picture of closeness. They barely communicated at all! If we try to see beauty in everything, we rise up to be our wisest selves, and this opens the doors for more coincidences that will help us along the way.
Time for Introspection
The Ninth Insight
Groups are a terrific way to gain positive energy. Think how good it feels to be with a like minded group, in a course you like, at church, at a party with friends. Situations like this are very uplifting. Our future culture will be one where we are completing our spiritual missions, and move into higher energy states. Once people grasp these nine insights on the global scale, humans will have more time for introspection.
Technology will mean less work for us—which we see already. As we learn more of the energy dynamics of the universe, we will learn that what we give will be returned to us many times over. When we project energy into someone it creates a void in ourselves, but if we are connected, it quickly fills again. Once we give constantly, we will always have more coming in than we could possibly give away. We will begin to see the truth or our way of life now. We are not here to build empires, but to evolve.
Jesus told his disciples that “they would be able to do things greater than he.” Also that we are in control of our spiritual destinies. The New Testament is the story of a group of people filled with an energy that transformed them. Eventually we will not need our bodies, we will evolve into such high states of energies, we will only need our spirits, thus ending the birth and death cycles.
The Tenth Insight: Holding the Vision
The Tenth through Twelfth insights are whole books. Although the insights are valuable, this writer does not believe so much information was necessary to make the points. Everyone on Earth will have a collective vision, finally realizing that all through history humans have been struggling to live spiritually. We all come with an assignment, and as we remember what it is, we recall a larger birth vision of what we wanted to come to Earth to accomplish. We will remember the vision we all have in common, of how we can all work together to create a new spiritual culture. To hold onto this vision, we must face each new day with intention and prayer, or positive thinking. This is the Law of Attraction. We are evolving into light beings, just as Hermes and Abraham said in the Emerald Tablet. The secret of this law is that anyone can manifest anything. We continue to move up spirals of consciousness if we obey the laws. As we continue to move upward and onward, we pass through gateways, where we have Spirit Guides who help us on our journey.
The Eleventh Insight: The Secret of Shambhala
This is how we extend the collective fields of intention and continue to hold onto that vision. Religious scriptures, poems, and philosophies have shown us that we can use the power of our minds to affect what happens in the future. It has been called faith, power, positive thinking, or the power of prayer. Finally, people will have to stop petty fights about whose religion is the right one or better one, there will only be one set of spiritual truths.
People will form groups, which Redfield calls "templates" from different religions. They will discuss the positive points where the religions are in agreement, and begin to move mankind further along the path to a greater spiritual truth from there. This power is our field of intention, which moves out from us and can be extended and strengthened, as we share these positive ideas with others. Soon we will not have to speak in person, we will be able to send each other psychic messages and they will know what we are doing, why, and where we are. Through this power we hold the spiritual vision of our world and build the energy in ourselves and in others to make this vision a reality.
The Twelfth Insight: The Hour of Decision
The Twelfth Insight basically discusses how we are constantly being divinely directed through all those “coincidences.” If you can recognize this and go with the flow, life will be fulfilling and joyful. We are always being guided, protected, and helped by an intelligence beyond our own. If you keep an open mind, you can come to the realization that we are all One.
This last insight tells in detail how to get to the feeling of Oneness, and how to sustain it. The real meaning of the 2012 end of the Mayan calendar was meant to herald in a long period of peace. We all have the choice to believe truth, and not chaos. I agree with Redfield's characters that the message of the future is that all people of all religions must take the best tenets of those religions, and open their minds to the fact no one religion is right or wrong. They have much in common, and this is where progress and peace can finally start working. Once people begin to see they have more in common than they realized, there can be one set of truths that can guide mankind towards a future for other generations. We can unite with the intention of love.

Hi Tams R,
Well, I take metaphysical courses, and never got around to the books until now. Every person expresses themselves differently, you could still write about the topic, as I didn't read all the books! There's lots of info there. And there are no accidents. Thanks for reading.
Tams R from Missouri on February 01, 2012:
This book series is impressive. I was asked to read it from my 7th grade teacher. I called him one day after more than 20 years and he said it was such a coincidence because he'd been thinking about me. After reading the first book I knew why he recommended it to me. I view things that "just happen" much differently now. I would recommend anyone read the series. Start with the first book. It will leave you wanting more. Great hub! Too bad you beat me to it. :)
Jean Bakula (author) from New Jersey on December 14, 2011:
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I didn't read the Celestine Prophecy in the early 90's when it was a bestseller, so I enjoyed reading the insights. In a way it was better, because I travel in Metaphysical circles, and many of us (as well as those who have written in on HP) can now see that many of Redfield's ideas were valid ones. I didn't read all of the books, but I also read the most current. I tried hard to bring out the most important points. Take care.
Caroline Marie on December 14, 2011:
Jean what a beautiful hub. I read the Celestine Prophecy a long time ago and again recently and am still amazed by it. What a great book! Thank you for sharing the insights with us!
Jean Bakula (author) from New Jersey on November 05, 2011:
I am so happy you enjoyed this one! HP has been a journey for me. I take Metaphysics classes with my husband, so we have discussed the meaning of 2012 (it's really just the end of the Mayan calender) but also what I said above, about religions finding their common elements and people realizing we need each other to get along on this Earth in harmony. The books are not great plot wise, but the author just needed a ruse for his excellent message. It seems each book I read (I've always been a reader) leads me to a different spiritual place, sort of a next step! I even read a bit about Buddhism, interesting stuff. I am also following you now. Take care, Jean

I am bookmarking this wonderful work of art.
I have always felt at one with nature so this hub of yours was a complete treat for me.
I also vote up up and away!!
I now look forward to following you on here.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.

Thank you Minnetonka Twin! It's always great to hear from you. I never read The Celestine Prophecy before, and it was really interesting. In a way it was nice to read it later, because we can already see certain truths in action!
Linda Rogers from Minnesota on October 16, 2011:
Jean-You did a remarkable job of bringing out the important points of each insight. I read the Celestine Prophecy back when It was a big seller and loved it. I see many of these truths unfolding today. Very interesting hub and one that can be Healing for all.
Jean Bakula (author) from New Jersey on October 07, 2011:
Thanks for visiting and commenting! I tried to cover all the truths besides the nine in the original Celestine Prophecy book, but now am deciding whether to go back and write a hub on the Twelfth Insight alone. It's very timely and true. Religious extremists from Islam and Christianity are trying to begin an Armegeddon so that when it's over, the "true", correct religion will prevail, and both groups believe their Messiah of choice will come back and make a wonderful place on Earth. But they don't care who they kill in this Armegeddon to do this, as the religions all think they are the only right one. This is silly, and it would be so much better if people could just get real and take the best from each. I know the message of 2012 and the Mayan Calender is that humankind must learn they can only continue forward if they learn to live in peace and harmony. There must be groups of people, called "templates" in the book, who work together in a scientific way to take the best of each religion, and come to one set of great truths. The idea is not a new one, the Hindus believe this. But it will be hard. Most religions agree that love is good, that people should work together towards goals, and towards what this book calls "God Consciousness." It's really very good. I hope we as mankind do the right thing.

Hi Jean - it's many years since I read the Celestine Prophesy and it was obvious that the weak plot was just a tool to get the insights across. I have lived with them ever since though sometimes life gets a little overpowering and I lose my way!
For me the lesson is to recognise synchronicity as the message from the Universe. I have got used now to the Universe tinkering with my life's path ... and it always teaches me something valuable. I just have to trust my subconscious to learn the lesson as the conscious mind is getting somewhat forgetful these days.
Thanks for reminding me of the value of this book ...

Thanks for stopping by! It is good stuff, and it's easy reading, you can get through one in a few hours. I understand the author didn't get heavy on plot because the Insights are the point. The Twelfth is really condensed in this hub too, so I think if this interests you, it's a nice read. The Twelfth is in the library in hardcover now too. Take care.
Hattie from Europe on October 05, 2011:
ha ha, now I'm going to have to read this book. lol I was told about it when it came out, but for some reason never read it. Sounds like some good stuff! :)

It's nice to hear from you, hope you had a nice vacation. It's been raining in NJ for what seems like forever, and it's finally sunny this week, so I wrote my hub, I'm going outside! Happy you liked the hub. I think Redfield really cashed out writing 4 books to say what I said here, lol. But it's interesting and I think stuff many people already realize. Take care.

Hello Jean, how have you been? I've been busy then on vacation so I'm sure I've missed a lot on HP. This is the first hub I've read this morning and I'm glad it was. Beautifully written and truthful on all levels. The older I get the more I understand that oneness. I've always felt it with nature but when it comes to humans it takes a bit longer. Hope you and your family are well, I've missed your insight :-) Peace!! Tom
