I've practiced Neville Goddard's technique with success and have even developed my own prayer technique to complement it.
There is a power that encircles this world in which we live, and I am of the opinion that this power is ours to use as we wish and always has been. The problem is, we have this, and because of it, we are living out lives partly filled with fear, paranoia, and ignorance.
Sure, there are times when we are over the moon with joy and happiness, such as when we are in love or on graduation day. However, there is no denying that life as we know it seems far too limited.
We keep asking the question, "Is this all there is to life?"
Inwardly we know. We know there is far more to this world than meets the eye. Unfortunately, to most of us, this is it—nothing more. We are too busy with our affairs to investigate.
Throughout history, there have been those who were naturally curious and did investigate; they somehow knew that this is our playground, and we control it simply by thinking. Yes, "thinking" things into being with concentrated imagination and emotion infused together to form a powerful attractive force from which manifesting desires is possible.
What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
— Mark 11:24
The Story of Neville Goddard
Born in Barbados in 1905 into a family of nine boys and one girl, Neville was very early singled out for greatness. One day, while he and his brothers were playing by an old hut near the sea, a seer approached them, and one by one, told them their fortunes. All but Neville were destined for normal jobs and lives. But Neville, she said, was special—chosen by God to perform a special mission.
To cut a long story short, Neville went on to become a New Thought Teacher, only his style was nothing like the other Teachers of the time. He came to the table with something completely new. He had studied the Bible inside out along with every other religious text and arrived at the conclusion that the stories in the Bible were not historical recordings or events, but were lessons laid out by wise men long ago to teach humanity how to use the powers of our minds, and to realize that God resided not somewhere above us but inside our minds, as our subconscious mind. He believed, as his Teachers believed, that manifesting desires through prayer was possible and he had experienced it himself.
Most intriguingly, he also taught that Jesus Christ was, in fact, not a man, but our very own subconscious mind, and the stories of miracles and healings were our actual powers should we choose to use them. He taught that our "imaginal activity" creates our world and our future although there is a delay between the imagining and the manifestation, therefore we have failed to notice our power thus far. However, you only need look back at your life to see the sense in his teachings. I can recall many a time in my life when I thought of a possible outcome (usually worry) only to have it materialize in my life a short time later. We are manifesting desires all the time in this way.
The world is yourself pushed out. Ask yourself what you want and then give it to yourself! Do not question how it will come about; just go your way knowing that the evidence of what you have done must appear, and it will.
— Neville Goddard
Manifesting Desires Using Neville's Technique
Working to Manifest Your Desires
Whatever you desire, you can summon it through your imaginal activity according to Neville. Lull yourself into a sleepy drowsy state, then while still in control, imagine yourself as you would be had you already achieved what it is you desire. If you desire a new job, see yourself being congratulated on a new job by a friend of yours. Keep the imaginal act short, and replay it as often as possible in your mind throughout the day and coming days. As you play the visions in your mind, allow yourself to feel the feeling of gratitude, of joy at already having what you want. Try to use your senses to really feel what you are imagining is real and most importantly, feel as if it is happening right now! This is without a doubt, one of the simplest and most effective methods of manifesting desires and once practiced sufficiently will work.
Do that and you will manifest your desires. I have used this technique myself and achieved great results although it does require great discipline and lots of practice to do it effectively.
All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.
— Gautama Buddha
My Own Prayer Technique for Manifesting Desires
I have developed my own technique, which, when used in conjunction with Neville Goddard's technique, is extremely powerful. Although it's still quite new to me, it has already borne fruit in the forms of a new job, new friends, and a new apartment, which I had previously desired for over a year.
You have probably heard of vision boards where you stick pictures of your goals onto a large board to look at each day and infuse yourself with a powerful desire force. I have adapted this technique and instead of a vision board I use a vision book, which is small enough to carry around with me where ever I go, so that I may look at it anytime I wish. I also have an affirmations booklet and an inspirational quotes booklet, and together, they create a potent package for manifesting desires. I'll explain the steps you need to follow in order to create your own set.
The Best Way to Effectively Manifest Desires
My Own Technique to Manifest Personal Goals and Desires
Things You'll Need
- First, buy a small notebook that will fit in your back pocket. Then buy one small business card holder and one medium sized business card holder.
- Once you know what it is you wish to attain or achieve, find pictures of your desires in magazines or online. There are thousands of free pictures online, so if you have a printer or access to one I would advise obtaining your pictures from the internet. Once you have your pictures glue them into your booklet and beside them write a caption like "This is my new car." Place a photo of you, with a smile on your face, next to the pictures of your "fulfilled" desires. You now have a vision booklet.
- Write out affirmations which closely relate to your desires, for example, "I have a wonderful new apartment located near the subway station." Write the affirmations onto small blank business cards or pieces of paper and then place the affirmation cards into your small business card holder. Tada! You now have your own affirmations booklet.
- Lastly, seek out as many inspirational quotes as you can find and also write them onto small blank business cards. Place them into the medium sized business card holder. You have your own inspirational quotes booklet.
How to Use Your Affirmations
Now how do I use these things?
- Ok, every day, morning, noon and night before you go to sleep, look at your desires booklet and summon the feeling of already having the outcomes you see in the pictures. See your smiling face and imagine you already have what you want.
- Choose an affirmation from your affirmation booklet and repeat it over and over for a few minutes, and smile as you do so as this infuses your affirmation with positive attraction energy.
- The quotation booklet can be used whenever you wish or whenever you need inspiration or motivation. Whip it out and read through a few quotes.
Believe me, it really does work. How could all that positivity and inspiration not work? If you use this technique with Neville's technique I assure you, you will see results, and in the near future too!
Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. Thoughts are things! And powerful things at that, when mixed with definiteness of purpose, and burning desire, can be translated into riches.

A month ago I was awakened from being. It is that in a dream like I never had in my life I unfolded and I could see my inner child, a new rebirth that expresses access to a new state of consciousness.
I immediately knew and felt clearer than ever the great truths of life. And all conflict and / or concern about the body, mind or spirit vanished. My eternal nature was evident and my purpose too. A feeling of peace, joy and invulnerability are in my whole being.
It is clear that the ego is all thoughts of separation and beliefs of scarcity, limitation, sacrifice, resignation and denial of internal desires.
It is clear that I and the universe are one and that there is nothing external to me.
It is clear that given my eternal, infinite, omnipotent nature any concern of health, money, love, etc. I was over. And that accessing states of peace and infinite bliss was a simple personal choice.

Your job is just to live in the emotional state that you would be in should he already be back with you. The ‘how’ of it is up to the universe. Then if it’s him, fantastic, if not it will be somone better!

Neville was a genius. He broke down the Bible into a positive self image self help psychology book. He said most people that go to church come out of the service on Sunday and never learn anything. If I could find a preacher that would teach the Bible like Neville I would go there every Sunday and Wednesday.

My favorite Neville book is The Law and the Promise. Seeing what you desire is one thing... letting go of how it "should" manifest is another, however. I also like Carole Dore's course on Power Treatments for this.
PD on July 16, 2014:
fabulous thread, thank you! I am caught in the confusion between imaging + visualizing and adding the action part. I am normally a huge action person. In Neville's book The Law and the Promise, his examples show simply people imagining and things manifesting from the prolonged imaginations. In fact, in the first example of the doctor and his wife, they specifically didn't take action until almost all of their visualization had manifested. Could you comment, would love your thoughts on this...many thanks !

I love that quote. Perfectly describes the vital ingredients!
I can see we share similar interests. I have also read 'think and Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill, in fact that was the next book after the very first book I read on metaphysics - The Secret - and stirred up far more interest than the secret did.
Unfortunately, The Secret is too pretentious and paints a picture of simply sitting in a chair and visualizing. Yes, that is a big part, but there must also be action involved or no progress will be made. Action plus faith equals success.
Wayne Dyer is also a big favorite of mine.
dashingscorpio from Chicago on July 31, 2012:
I've read a few books by Neville but as you say it requires practice and discipline to control one's thoughts and envoke the (feeling) of having achieved one's desire. It reminds me of an old vesrse I heard somewhere. "Faith is to believe in what we cannot see and the reward of that faith is to see what we believe." This also the underlying principle of "Think And Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.
Right now I am ready Wayne Dyer's "Wishes Fulfilled" which mentions Nevell quite often.

Yes, other people with their negative attitudes are incredibly hard to ignore sometimes and can take you right back to square one, no matter how much effort you put in. Therefore, the only way of dealing with them is by being completely in control of our mind, heart, subconscious, solar plexus etc and not let them in.
Sure, we can have friends and colleagues, we have to follow a system whereby we interact with them but do not allow them to in any way bring us down with negativity. Doing that without seeming like a weirdo can be challenging! haha :)
Yes I have seen "You can heal your life" by Louise Hay and you are right, it does help. There is also a great course out there which was written in 1923 by a man named Henry Thomas Hamblin called "Dynamic Thought" and it is a phenomenal course. Look it up, there are places online where you can still get it free via download.
Have a wonderful day! Rich :)

You are very welcome! The way that I stop my mental chatter is through meditation, I am one of these people that if I have a lot on my mind, I can throw the idea of sleep away for the night. Yes, our subconscious mind listens to everything that we think and say, and we attract everything to us in good and bad ways. We just have to be aware of our daily thoughts. The problem is, when we have to deal with negative people, especially at work. All we can do is give them kindness and forgiveness! Have you seen the extended Louise L. Hay's movie, "You Can Heal Your Life"? It is a great movie that puts everything into perspective. Hope that you get a chance to watch it, it will help you out even more. What you give out, you get back in life.
Have a great day and thanks again!
Richard J ONeill (author) from Bangkok, Thailand on August 01, 2011:
Thanks for stopping by. It's true that stopping the mental chatter is one of our biggest challenges to taking control of our lives and the circumstances in it. If what I have read and studied is true, then our subliminal mind is listening intently to every thought we entertain and takes those thoughts as orders. It then works on bringing a form of those thoughts into our material world. Scary when you consider the type of thoughts we are exposing our minds to!
The attraction board is also an excellent idea. I don't have one because I'm far too busy and tend to do things on the run, on the way to work and back and even during.
nice chatting. Take care. :) Rich

Richard J ONeill (author) from Bangkok, Thailand on June 13, 2011:
Yes I agree with you Neil. It's the thinking that gets in the way of the results. You may picture something fulfilled and focus on the end result, but then along come those habitual doubtful, questioning thoughts and CRASH! The whole thing comes to an end.
Keep practicing, and you'll get the hang of it though. Babies try and fail hundreds if not thousands of times to do something new, but never ever give up. We should take a leaf out of their book.
Take care Neil. :) Rich

Thank you so much for that lovely comment G82hug. It brought a smile to my face, that's for sure!
You practice Buddhism. That's fantastic because I'm living in a country that is predominantly Buddhist, Thailand. It is a religion that intrigues me because it runs parallel to my own beliefs about this world. There is just one god and he is in everything, which is the teaching of Buddhism, is it not?
I once wanted to become a monk but now I think I'll just settle for being spiritual and explore all possibilities.
Take care g82hug. I look forward to chatting again!

This is a phenomenal hub, which was enhanced by this amazing dialog! You're onto something Rich. I too am of the mind that our thoughts can become our reality, good or bad. It is so very easy to focus on the negative and get trapped in that place. Sometimes you don't even notice it until you are neck deep in it. I have fell victim to my own mind, too many times to count. But knowing that the only person that can truly change my situation is myself, brings me to a call of action. That means changing my thoughts or ideas about a situation or individual.
I don't have an affirmation booklet, but I certainly have made several vision boards! I also make it a habit of writing down the things that I want to accomplish before chanting (I practice Buddhism), which I have found very effective.
I am honored to follow you Rich and I can't wait to read more of your amazing insights.

PWalker281 on April 04, 2011:
I know what you mean about "old baggage," Rich. I recently had the "opportunity" to re-experience some during 2010 which lead to a very difficult year for me. Looking back on it, I believe this "stuff," which goes back to my childhood, came up for me to, once and for all, recognize it and let it go.
When it's in my face, it's hard not to notice it. I made a conscious decision in 2009 to experience or become aware of who I really am, i.e., Consciousness, Awareness, Spirit - whatever you want to call it. But, I had to first let go of the subconscious "programs" that were blocking me from this awareness. I didn't "do" anything in particular, other than make the intention to identify more with the "inner me" instead of the "external me." As a result, all hell broke lose, or so it seemed.
Now I realize that the difficult circumstances I experienced were the result of these old programs coming up (for the last time, I hope) to be acknowledged and released. It's hard to explain but now I feel calmer, more peaceful, and more trusting in my ability to create the reality I desire because I have a better understanding of who I really am which means I'm not as "needy" as I was before. I don't need "things" to make me whole. I already am. The result is that it's easier now to relax and allow them to come to me.
I could go on, but I'll stop here. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond so thoughtfully.
Richard J ONeill (author) from Bangkok, Thailand on April 03, 2011:
Well, there are 2 reasons I said that, one personal and the other not so. The personal reason is because in my own experience of attempting to use This Universal power or energy, call it what you will, the one thing that keeps getting in the way is the baggage i've carried with me for so long.
By that I mean habits of feeling, emotions, reactions etc Whether we like it or not, we are all carrying these programs around in our heads, the ones that are subtly manipulating us without most of us realising it. It is just the way the brain works, whatever you did most, felt most as a youngster becomes a program and is run thereafter by the subconscious mind, whether it is good or bad, positive or negative.
Things said by parents, adults, friends etc they do make a difference and some of them do stick, it shows in the world today.
Pwalker281, I am resolving to know and understand my programs, which is my second reason, as I have learned alot about the subconscious mind and know that programs can be reversed or simply replaced. I have learned, and now need to put into practice, that its necessary to completely open up to yourself, reveal everything, weaknesses and all and only then can you really begin change.
I'm pretty sure we need to change from within, allow ourselves to finally be able to express the REAL us, not the bunch of programs.
Then we can successfully use LoA. That's just what i have come realise.
As you said, use techniques to find solutions. That is basically it, as well as finally be honest to yourself and admit your failings, successes, everything. Then weed out those programs you installed unwittingly, the once that damage you by using techniques like affirmations, visualizing, pictures, positive thinking etc.
I have my own program I'm doing now. Do you have a program that you use for your own healing Pwalker281? I'd love to hear of it.
Thanks for commenting. Very thought provoking.
PWalker281 on April 03, 2011:
Hi Richawriter, thanks so much for this excellent synopsis of the life and philosophy of Neville Goddard. The techniques you use to create the reality you desire are a great way to stay focused on "the wish fulfilled" until it manifests.
I do have a question, though. What did you mean in your comment to Maxpower when you said, "We must first resolve our personal issues before we can ... use LoA"? I've found that the more I focus on my "personal issues," and by this I'm assuming Maxpower meant the problematic ones, the more they remain issues.
Why not use these techniques to focus attention and feelings on the solution instead? (That's probably what you're saying, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding you).
Rated up and useful!
Richard J ONeill (author) from Bangkok, Thailand on March 24, 2011:
Thanks Maxpower, you are exactly right. We must first resolve our personal issues before we can effectively, purposely use LoA. It's all in the feeling and imagining which means we need to be in complete control of our mind.
Max_Power from Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. on March 20, 2011:
Great hub, very well written, with great tips and clear instructions. I especially liked the quote by Neville.
I have had some success with manifesting material things (car, etc), and mixed results with creating better life circumstances.
For example I am now following my passions, but the change came about through unpleasant circumstances. If I had to choose I would have created the outcome by a different method.
That said, I do trust the Universe and accept the 'forced' change to my life.
Relationships have been the trickiest area for me. It seems that we don't necessarily get the person that we may want, but we do get the feelings that we focus on. This is great news really, since the person that we wanted may not have been the best choice to have the kind of relationship which we were seeking.
Either way, it seems that we get what we 'feel' most often. Due to this I think our personal 'issues' determine how easily or how quickly a manifestation will come.
