Court Cards - Knight of Pentacles
A Slow Knight
The Knights of the tarot are the do-ers, the go-getters. They represent the active element of their suits. Each Knight has to work with what his suit has given him, i.e. his traits and actions are defined by the qualities of swords, pentacles, cups or wands. So some Knights are more active than others. The Knight of Swords moves at a frightening pace once he has made up his mind about something; the Knight of Wands dashes about all over the place, never making up his mind about anything. The Knight of Cups ambles around looking for love in all the wrong places. Our Knight of Pentacles moves with maddening slowness – what exactly is going on with this son of the realm?
The Knight of Pentacles sits, still as a statue on his solid cob. He faces right, towards east and the rising sun. He wears full armour with a red tunic over, and red gloves. His horse wears a red bridle and matching crupper. The Knight holds a gold pentacle in his right hand. The background is rolling farmland. A plowed field, indicates that this is late winter or very early spring. The sky is yellow.

In a Reading
Be pleased if this card shows up in your reading. The Knight of Pentacles is a good card. It may be exhorting the seeker to take on some of his steady characteristics, in other words, slow down and take measured steps towards your goal, or to disentangle yourself from an unwanted situation. The card may hint at someone who has, or will have, a lot of influence in the seeker's life. He may well be the seeker himself.
Your first impressions of this character may not be particularly arresting. He may come across as quiet at best, uncommunicative at worst. He probably won't smile a lot, laugh, or tell jokes. You can tell he prefers to listen, than to be the center of attention. People will tell you he works hard and is determined. They might also say he lacks the sparkle that would make him stand out from the crowd. You might be inclined to say, “Meh,” and walk away. You'd be making a big mistake.
Yes, all those things are true, but there is so much more to this Knight than meets the eye. He is not showy, or talkative. He's not the best at romance, that's for sure. However, this personality may be exactly what you are looking for. The Knight of Pentacles is straight and true. He is reliable, hardworking and completely dependable. Oh boring! I hear you say, where's the fun? Where's the excitement? Well, it's there all right. You might just have to be patient before he reveals his true nature to you.
The Knight of Pentacles is conservative. He is a traditionalist. He likes routine and he likes things done in a certain way. Nevertheless, underneath there is a creative soul, a passionate lover and an amazingly intuitive personality. He's not the partying type, but he will sit with a sick baby all night. He takes care of people he loves. He hides his pain in order not to upset others. He is fiercely loyal and deeply committed. People who get close to him and who are willing to allow him to be himself discover that he is witty, clever, intelligent and an all-round good guy.
The reversed Knight of Pentacles is stubborn, narrow-minded, pernickety and boring. He does not have that interesting extra layer that his upright counterpart has. He has a jaundiced view of the world and tends to be very closed-in. He appears to dislike humanity and is usually a loner. He hates change and resists all persuasion to improve his life. The appearance of this reversed Knight can mean that the seeker is stuck in a very deep rut and is completely unwilling to get out of it. In a relationship reading, it seems that both partners are separate within the partnership. There is no point of contact or common ground where they could sort out their problems. In a career reading, this one's going nowhere.
Love and Relationships
You know the old cliché... “still waters run deep”? Well, this Knight has very deep waters. Pentacles are the 'earth' suit, thus he is deeply connected to the physical world. He is a very sexy personality, but no-one except you may ever discover that. Once he makes a commitment to another, he is there for life. He is willing to make changes if it makes his love happy, but don't expect him to turn into someone he couldn't possibly be. If the relationship fails, it is not usually he who initiates the ending.
As a husband, you couldn't wish for better, although there will be times when you wish he was just a little less staid. As he gets older, he may well morph into a King of Pentacles and loosen up a lot. He becomes more comfortable with himself and other people. The Knight of Pentacles is also a good father. He is willing to learn to be the best parent he can be.
Careers and Money
This is a good card to turn up in relation to both careers and money. He may not be the most obvious choice to reach the top of his profession but his unceasing hard work will get him there in the end. If he runs his own business, expect slow but steady growth. The Knight of Pentacles is not enormously well-off, especially when young, but there may well be family money due to him. He is also quite capable of building wealth by his own efforts.
