Soul Mates in Dreams: Can You Dream of Someone Before Meeting Them?

Do Soul Mates Exist?

As little girls, we fantasize about growing up and meeting our Prince Charming. We dream up big weddings with beautiful gowns, loads of people, and a beautiful church with stained-glass windows. As we grow older, we wonder if there's that perfect someone out there for us. We ponder on the concept of a soul mate. Some of us believe we have soul mates and are destined to meet them.

So, do soul mates exist? If you are open-minded and believe that anything is possible, why isn't it possible that when our souls were created they were created in pairs or even groups? If this is true, than one of those other souls in that group would be considered your soul mate. Many people say you choose to reincarnate with the same souls each meeting your soul mate in this life would be highly likely in that case, wouldn't it? But can we meet our soul mates in our dreams before meeting them in reality?

Are Dreams Real?

Dreams can take us to far-off places. Surreal places where reality is blurred and things aren't what they seem. For some of us, we are taken to places we've been before. And for some of us, our dreams seem like future memories - experiences in our dreams sometimes become reality. Are dreams just psychological pictures that can be brushed off as "all in a person's head"? Or are they something more?

Again, to answer this question, it has to be answered by the individual. This is a very subjective topic with very subjective opinions. For me, I've had dreams that have come true on one level or another, so I know that my dreams can be real to some degree. I also believe that our dreams can be distant past-life memories and even memories from other realms of existence. And if you pay more and more attention to your dreams, you'll realize more and more how your dreams can reflect your own life both past, present and future.

A tip on how to use your dreams to read the future is to start writing down your dreams every morning. At first you might not remember your dreams, but as soon as you wake up write down any thoughts or feelings you might be having. After awhile you'll notice that you're writing down your dreams every day. And you'll begin to notice patterns in your dreams and in waking life. Pay particular attention to the people in your dreams...are you meeting people in real life that you've already met in your dreams? It's not only possible, it's quite likely you might meet them in your dreams before meeting them in real life. Give it a try. I dare you.

Meeting Someone In Your Dreams & Deja Vu

Often when we dream we have other people there with us. Sometimes their faces are blurred or they are vague people who we believe we only know in our dreamtime. Sometimes they're people we already know in real life - a family member, a friend, a neighbor, etc. So how do we know these vague dream people are people we've yet to meet and not just another figment of our imaginations?

First, and as mentioned above, write down your dreams. Write down exactly what this person says to you in your dream, how they make you feel. It's quite possible this vague person in your dream is one of your soul mates' astral doubles (dream selves) meeting you in the dreamworld. Very often our astral doubles will go ahead of us to meet people we're supposed to meet in reality.

Next take note on how often this person shows up in your dreams. Also note if they have any specific messages for you and where they show up. These could be premonitions as to when and where you'll meet your soul mate in real life.

When you actually meet your soul mate in real life, you'll know it immediately. It's that feeling of deja vu. A strong urge inside that tells you you've met the person before, and that your soul already intimately knows them. It's very hard to explain the feeling to someone, but once you've had it you'll know. It's very likely that one of you will even say, "I feel like we've met before". Or "I feel like I know you from somewhere".

Is It Your Soul Mate or Spirit Guide? Or Are They the Same?

Everyone has a spirit guide or guardian angel that helps them on their way through life. They might show up in your dreams to give you messages of encouragement or teach you lessons when you need them most. Sometimes they're there when you just need comfort. The same spirit guide you had as a child will be the same one you have as an adult. There is usually one that stays with you your entire life, while there can be other guides that come and go as your life progresses.

Some people theorize that our soul mates could actually be our spirit guides. In ancient times many cultures believed that everyone had a "double" spirit that would leave their bodies and travel to various places when the person was either asleep or in a trance. It's possible that this astral double could be your soul mate's double guiding you through life until you meet them in real life. It's also possible that your spirit guide is separate from your soul mate but they might be very similar in appearance or demeanor.

So how do you know when you're dreaming of your spirit guide or your soul mate? This is a very difficult thing to determine in many cases. Keeping a dream journal of your experiences will help. You can also ask your spirit guide to reveal him/herself through your dreams. Ask him/her if he/she is your soul mate, too or just your spirit guide in this life. If you're unsure how to ask them, you don't have to ask out loud. Praying in your mind is the perfect way. When you get your answer, you'll know. You can also ask for signs. If your mind is open enough, your signs will appear in waking time via a symbol, animal, or message in nature, on television or through a friend's words.

If you haven't met your soul mate yet, don't will! Either in your dreams or in reality, he or she will appear.

Well i think i finally met my soulmate and he's my current boyfriend actually. I have experienced it all i mean the one you mentioned above. Before i met him i have dreams about him like we're on a date but i couldnt see his face and im like chatting with him, i dont really know who he is but i know he's the same guy im dreaming about. And yes I experienced deja vu on the date thing like the exact seat the exact movie and the exact clothes we're wearing and i was like "what?" and looked at him lol. But then something awful happened between us and we're on the verge of breaking up but i didnt gave up on him and by the time Im about to give up on him because im hurting way too much, now he doesnt want me to. We're still not 100% okay because of what he did and he still abit awkward but I believe we'll be okay maybe not now or tomorrow but eventually. I want to believe in him :)

I often have dreams that later come true. When I met my soul mate, I didn't dream of him beforehand, but as you say above, I knew it when I met him. He is unlike anyone I have ever known.

    Thanks for writing.

annart - I absolutely agree we have to work at it. I've been married to the same man for 7 years, been together for 9. I would say we started out rocky but as time goes on, we get better and better together. Because we put the effort into our relationship. That being said, I DO believe in soul mates, and I think we often reincarnate with the same souls around us. Of course we meet different souls throughout life that teach us different things, but we also are around the same ones too. I believe dreams are more than just dreams. Thanks for reading and sharing your opinion.

I think we're very lucky if we meet our soul-mate. Even then, I agree with the person who said we have to work at it. However, there is possibly more than one soul-mate, so if one dies there could be another to find, though the chances of find two, let alone one, would be low I think.

Food for thought here though. Dreams are interesting and reflect much of what we feel and what we live out in reality, making our minds mull over it all and give us a few answers if we can make them out.

    Interesting hub!

Enjoyed reading this. I know I have spirit guides and I am sure my husband is a soulmate. My Guardian Angel came to me once when I was in distress. I can feel his presence often, especially when I walk labyrinths. Invite him to walk with me.

Since I am writing a novel, my dreams seem to flee out of reach as soon as I open my eyes from sleep. They depart before I can even grab my pen and notebook. If I do remember one, I'll write it down. Thanks for the extra inspiration!

That is why I believe most of us have more than one soulmate in our life.......My understanding of soulmates are people who you have a natural connection too.......and yes I believe there can be multiple ones in your life.......

bluesradio - Very cool! And you're right, there are multiples but for this hub I was focusing on just the concept of one. Though I've written about "soul groups" in my past hubs. :) I too have had a run-in with a soul mate who was not the most positive person...and not a good person to have in one's least not in this life. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts and experiences. :)

Very interesting. I cannot judge this one way of another. When I met my soul mate, I was not paying attention to my dreams in such a way. On reflection I think I dreamt of her as she is today, 15 years later.

Two things to this Hub...One I believe we actually have multiple soulmates in our life, and I have been fortunate enough to meet several of them already...Some online (our actual meeting will probably come later) and some in person..

I can also tell you I have had the experience you are talking about..I remember as a High School kid going to a Summer camp for minorities and when I first went into the room, it was if I had met every last one of those students prior because I had dreamt about them and new them even before we were in the same space.....I also believe that our ancestors and angels talk to us through our dreams on a regular...

And, last but not least, not all soulmates are positive...I have also had a run in with a previous connection at least once or twice and that unfinished business must still remain unfinished for another life, another time probably...

Your right every girl dreams of meeting her soul mate. And dreams make our wishes come true or is it the other way around.

Sorry, not buying it. If we're made in pairs and have "soulmates" what happens if one dies prematurely? The other is destined to be alone forever? I rather think that we pick a person to be our soulmate and then work to become soulmates for the rest of our lives!
