Kitty has been a lucid dreamer her entire life. These dreams and experiences drive her desire to help others understand their dreams.

Are you dreaming of ghosts? Here's why.

Dreaming of Ghosts or Haunted Houses?

Ghosts that pop up in our dreams can usually be quite frightening and most definitely unnerving. Just recently I had a bout of sleep paralysis that involved a terrifying ghost dream in which I was attacked by an evil ghost. But at the same time, I have had dreams of being a haunted house explorer and tour guide, obviously a ghost dream with a much lighter tone and environment. Many people dream of ghosts and want to know exactly what it means to have a ghost dream.

This hub will provide some interpretations to commonly dreamt ghost dreams, as well as interpretations of haunted house dreams. These are merely suggestions, as I am not a psychologist or professional dream analyst, so you must ultimately interpret your ghost dream in a way that is personal to you and your life.

Many say that dreaming of ghosts a lot or having recurring ghost dreams is sort of like your subconscious trying to expose the "bones in your closet" to your conscious mind, so to speak. I believe that there's more to ghost dreams than this quick and obvious ghost dream interpretation.

What are some of the most common ghost dreams and how they can be more deeply interpreted?

What about having a ghost dream in which you enter a house and a ghost pops out at you, scaring you so badly that you flee? Seems like a simple ghost dream to interpret...so let's think about this. First of all, what does the house look like? Is it a house that you've been in before? You're own house maybe? What does the ghost look like, or do you see any distinguishing features at all? If you fled from the ghost in this ghost dream, you are obviously fearful of something...but is it a part of you or maybe a part of your life that scares you...a part of your life that you are trying to get away from?

If the house in which you encounter this ghost is your own house, you know that this ghost in your ghost dream can be interpreted to relate directly to your life and your experiences. It is quite possible that there is a hidden side of you that you are trying to run away from or to deny. It's a part of your life that's not just hidden from others, but hidden from yourself. Or at least you'd like to think so...is it an addiction? Alcohol? Pills? Cigarettes? Don't hide from your ghost...it will haunt you for the rest of your life...maybe ultimately turning you into a ghost yourself.

What about a ghost dream interpretation for a ghost that appears to you in your own room? Is it an evil presence or just an eerie, strange presence? Does it say anything to you? Warn you of something? Maybe there's nothing to interpret here...maybe this ghost dream is simply a warning or message from beyond the grave. Especially if the ghost is someone you once knew that has passed...take their message into great consideration. If they didn't speak, try to invite them into your dreams again in order to acquire their message. Sometimes dreams don't need to be interpreted, but merely listened to.

Haunted House Dream Interpretations

What about a haunted house dream interpretation?

I have had numerous haunted house dreams in my lifetime, most of them being scary in one way or another. Not always terrifying, but scary and/or thrilling in a weird sort of way. Usually it is one of two haunted houses, and I am either living in them or trying to find someone in the haunted house dream.

A haunted house full of ghosts and mysteries could indicate that you are starting a new turn in your life and aren't sure of what to expect...that you are hesitant and most likely very nervous as to what you will find in this new "house" or could the house possibly symbolize a new job or a new love? Are you frightened that this new job or potential relationship will run you off...or that you might not be strong enough to deal with the terrors and risks of something new? These are true possibilities for a haunted house dream interpretation.

What if you feel comfortable in the haunted house dream, as if you are a tour guide of sorts? This haunted house dream interpretation is obviously going to be quite different from the haunted house dream interpretation above. If you are more than comfortable, even curious, of your haunted house in your dream, it is possible that you are exploring a side of yourself that you didn't even know existed before. You are coming to a fork in the road of life, and discovering secrets about yourself that are exciting and liberating. It is also possible that this haunted house dream interpretation could mean that you are facing the ghosts of your past with bravery and a willingness to learn from them.

No matter if you are having ghost dreams or haunted house dreams, the themes can be quite similar and the feelings and sensations can be similar, as well. Just remember that they are dreams and can be interpreted differently for each individual. However, use these ghost dream and haunted house dream interpretations to build off of in order to interpret your own dreams.

  • I dreamt that I was taken over by a demon. What does this mean?

It means you might have a demon trying to attach to you through your dreams. Smudge yourself and your house with white sage. Raise your vibrations. I just wrote an article called "How to Get Rid of Demons and Demonic Attachments." You can find it on my profile.

I keep having re-occurring dreams about being attacked by an invisible ghost, no contacts verbally but extremely violent. This always happens in 2 properties I lived in with my parents and always in the same places, either in the loft of the last house I lived in with my parents but most recently in the house I was a child in. Most recently, I walk into my childhood bedroom to open the curtains and as I reach to them the door violently slams behind me and I am dragged violently backwards against the wall and thrown around the room, then I wake and feel really cold for about 30 minutes and occasionally I wake around the same time in the morning, between 2am and 3.30am. Do you have any idea what this means?

Hi kitty I reckon with ghost dreams they are actually spirits in the dream and they are trying to connect with us even though they can be tactless in the way they go about it. Other dreams like the recurring one I have about oceans flooding land have an obvious interpretation for me. It reflects a situation in my life that has been beyond my ability to resolve. On the eve of my 40th birthday I dreamed I was in a friends bedroom where I used to have sleepovers. I could sense a presence by the wall and hid under the covers. The ghost spirit leapt into my body and shook me from the inside. I tried to scream but couldn't initially. I tried again and succeeded in screaming and I burst out of the dream out of my bed and onto the bedroom floor. It was scary but the spirit was trying to help and was clumsy about it. It was like it's your birthday up you get. It's not in the house and it's not bothering me anymore. The ghosts find it easier to reach us in dreams and I have been researching some scottish history about lady jane grey. This gentle spirit tells me that her story was exaggerated by historians for added drama and even though she had some trauma it wasn't as bad as they said it was. She resides in glamis castle and is mostly peaceful nowadays but will connect with psychics if they wish to do so.

very informative post! I just want to clear a thing, in fact you might burst into a laughter after this! I had a dream this morning where in I saw a lady in black dress with loose hair, clear face, standing in front of my house, could be seen only by me and not by any of my family members! she refused to go away from my place! but she kept calling my name in a husky voice to which I was very much irritated! what does it mean?

Saint - Thanks, glad you found them interesting.

Vinaya - Well, you're braver than I, my friend! See, it's the opposite for me. I used to like walking around in graveyards...they don't freak me out as much as nightmares do!

Ghosts, demons and spirits have frequently appeared in my dreams and I never fear them in my dreams. But interestingly, whenever I pass through crematorium and cemetery in the dark night, a chill runs through my spine.

Great information. I've never had an actual ghost in my dream, but had the creepy presence feeling in I just took them as stress or eating something wrong before bed. :) Now, I'm trying to think about what was going on in my life when I had those dreams.

Interesting take on ghost dream interpretations....I enjoyed reading about a subject that I had no idea about before I read your hub. Your links are also great tools for learning. I know that my wife would freak out if she had even one of these types of dreams....keep up the good work.
