Dream Magick: Herbs, Stones, and Dream Recall
There's Magick in Our Dreams
Perhaps you've noticed that some of your dreams come true, or maybe you've noticed that sometimes dreams provide answers to you that you might not have found otherwise. Some of us are born dreamers, while others have no interest in dreams. But for those who seek solitude in their dream-time, we are often wondering how can we increase or intensify our dreams? How can we have more of those mind-bending, memorable dreams that shake us to our core?
There are actually quite a few simple ways to induce dreaming, as well as to intensify and clarify your dreams. I have spent my entire life with a constant intrigue for dreaming, and I have had many lucid dreams. I have found a few clever ways to bring about dream-time that might help you.
Crystals and Stones for Dreams
One of the easiest things to do to induce or intensify your dreams is to purchase and use certain crystals and stones. They are fairly cheap to purchase online or at a nearby metaphysical store. You don't have to buy a huge, elaborate stone or crystal, a small nickel-sized stone will do the trick.
For the last ten years, I have used one stone in particular...Amethyst. Amethyst is a light to dark purple crystal that is thought to protect its wearer/user from nightmares but is also thought to connect oneself with one's intuition.
Once you have a piece of amethyst, there are a few ways you can use it to induce dream-time.
- Place the small piece in your pillowcase.
- Place it on the nightstand next to your bed.
- Hang it or place it in your bedroom windowsill.
- Place it between the mattress and boxspring.
You can use these same methods with other crystals and stones of your choice. Really any stone or crystal that correlates with one's third eye chakra or crown chakra is a good stone to use for inducing or intensifying dreams.
Crystals and stones that I have found to be helpful with inducing or intensifying dreams include (but aren't limited to):
- Lapis lazuli
- Rose and clear quartz
- Blue lace agate
Another way in which to use crystals and stones for dream magick is to make a crystal grid. A crystal grid is simply a pattern of crystals or stones (like the one shown in the picture above) that is used as a means to generate power for a purpose (such as for inducing dreams). Choose stones that correlate with what you are trying to achieve in your dreams.
Using Herbs for Dream Magick
Herbs have many purposes including for culinary and medicinal use. But have you ever thought of using herbs for energetic purposes? Many herbs have properties that aid in inducing or intensifying dreams. The aroma, the chemical constituents, and vitamins in certain herbs can help bring about a night of clear and lucid dreams.
Here are some herbs that you can use to induce or intensify dream-time:
- Blue vervain
- Lemon Balm
- Lemon Verbena
- Rose petals
You may be wondering, once you have your herb or herbs of choice what do you do with them to help increase your dreams?
Here are a few ways to use herbs in dream magick:
- make an herb-stuffed dream pillow
- make an herb-infused oil and anoint your third eye before sleep
- take an herbal bath before bedtime
- drink an herbal tea such as mugwort and mint before bedtime
- simply smell a bag of herbs before climbing into bed
- hang an herb sachet on your bed
Herbs can be used in many other ways, your imagination is your limit! Use herbal references and online resources to determine the best herb(s) for your dream magick.
Increasing Your Dream Recall
A large part of increasing the number of your dreams is in direct correlation to simply remembering your dreams in the morning. Every night every single one of us has more than one dream, it's just that most of us do not recall those dreams when we wake up.
There is one very simple way to increase your dream recall and therefore increase your number of dreams and that is to keep a record of your dreams. This seems time-consuming, but it is not as bad as what you might be thinking.
Here's how to get started:
- purchase a cheap composition or notebook of some kind (if you want to get fancy you can use a decorative journal/diary)
- set your dream recall journal and a pen beside your bed
- when you wake up, immediately write down everything you remember from your sleep (even if you don't recall your dreams, write down your thoughts/feelings upon waking)
- continue to do this on a daily basis
Once you've been recording your dreams for a month or so, you will start to recall more and more dreams every night. Some people can remember up to five dreams in one night! Obviously if you're able to build better dream recall, this means you'll be having an increasing number of dreams.
