Dream Meanings A-Z

Updated on April 17, 2016

Some years ago I was given a fantastic book called "The Dreamers Dictionary" by Stearn Robinson and Tom Corbett. This book has inspired me to write a Hub on dreams and their meanings, as I seldom found the book to be wrong when I looked up my dreams the next day.

To make it easier I am going to list the appropriate dream contents in alphabetical order so that if you want to look up a dream of your own you can find the meaning more easily. For obvious reasons I cannot list all the dreams possible here, but if you have a dream about something that is not on this list please feel free to ask me the question in the comments section and I will attempt to find out the meaning for you.

I have tried to stick to the most common things that happen in dreams here, but of course far more unusual animals, events etc do come up in dreams, so let me know if you think there are any significant ones I have failed to include and I shall add them to the list.

A

Abnormal. To dream of something abnormal such as a horse with feathers or an aeroplane flying backwards means you will shortly have a pleasing solution to your worries.

Abroad. To dream of going abroad by ship means you will make an influential new friend in the near future. To dream of being abroad, in foreign places, indicates an unsettled condition and a probably change of location.

Abyss. This is an obstacle dream. If you avoid the fall, you will overcome your difficulties; but if you fall into the abyss, it is a warning that you must be extremely careful in your business dealings.

Accelerator. Using it to increase the speed of a car, (or any other vehicle) indicates that you will achieve your objectives through your own efforts. If, in the dream the accelerator is jammed or you were unable to control it, it is a warning to beware of a habit which could turn into a vice if you're not careful.

Accident. The meaning of this dream varies greatly depending on the circumstances and surroundings, but as a rule it is a warning. If you dreamed of an accident, as such, you would be wise to avoid unnecessary travel for a few weeks. An accident at sea pertains to love affairs, on land to business affairs. If possible, you should avoid the thing that was involved in the accident (for 24 hours following the dream), i.e., if you dreamed of a car crash, walk for a day but be careful crossing the streets! Steer clear of planes, trains, horses, knives, sharp instruments, fires, electricity, high places, or whatever pertained to the dream accident for at least a day; and if you can't avoid them, take extra precautions.

Acid. Anything to do with acid is a dream of warning. Be cautious in regard to promises given or reliance on promises received.

Acorn. You will immensely lucky if you dreamed of anything to do with acorns or the tree which bears them. They predict the successful outcome of any problems you may have now and prosperity and good fortune in all your plans for the future.

If you were rescued in your dream, or managed to swim to safety, success will follow hardship.

All of the credit for the A-Z entries should be given to "The Dreamers Dictionary" by Stearn Robinson and Tom Corbett. This Hub only represents a tiny sample of the meanings of dreams the book contains. I believe everyone should have a copy in their household as it has always been incredibly accurate whenever I have referred to it after a particularly vivid dream.

If you check out the Amazon and ebay adverts at the top of this Hub you will see the book is listed, and is not expensive to buy, so why not give it a go for yourselves.

Great job with this Hub! As you know I have written about dreams too. I don't think there is an exact science to dream interpretation. Basically, our dreams tell us important information about our struggles. They also might be a pathway to a stronger, spiritual connection. Gary Eby, author and therapist.

Most of my dreams are in color and are premonitory so that would throw your assumptions out, Gary. One item I didn't see in your hub was bus--not a school bus, more like a city bus. House is also a good one that is misseed. I, too, have a dream dictionary and it goes into deeper details about roles, different aspects of houses and even buildings and clothes and colors and such. Great hub!

Thanks to both of you for your comments.

Lady Guinevere, leave those two with me and I shall add them later tonight.

I believe dreams can be either important information about our struggles, or premonitory, or both.

My husband wakes up nearly every morning with exactly the same words'Weird dreams!' he mutters as he slinks off to the bathroom. When I do manage to pin him down before he's forgotten his night time adventures, I'm amazed by the variety and detail. I have interesting dreams now and again, but no where near as consistently as he does. We used to look up the meanings, but gave up in the end, because it was worse than wading through a whole jar of fortune cookies. Each detail would contradict the one before.

My mum used to tell me not to eat cheese at night because it would give me nightmares. It never has.

Amanda. LOL, sounds like your Husband has had too mcuh cheese, having said that, as someone who used to always go to bed with a piece of cheese and a glass of milk, it never gave me bad dreams.

I am going to have to come back and continue reading down the list later Misty. I only got up to bacon before I realised that I hadn't had breakfast yet.

Sally is the same as you guys about dreams and interpreting them. Me I would rather listen to Sally's nocturnal mutterings. "I'm going to kill him" seems to be the often repeated favourite.

Misty this "friend of mine" has this recurring dream of seeing an aeroplane (only a small one, mind) fall out of the sky. Always far enough away not to be dangerous(to him) doesn't know about the pilot. Do you think it might be because he's afraid of flying or that the Blue Bird of Happiness hasn't passed by?

I had this dream the other night while waiting for my reading and it has alot to do with the things that are in the reaading.......... My husband and I were talking and it was springtime in the front of a two story house with a walk-out basement. We went around back and then we turned around and walked up the side of the house and the ground was frozen. In the driveway there were ice puddles==that were water when we were there in the springtime. He helped me walk over then as he slipped and slided, but didn't fall on those ice puddles. There was a bus that came up the road on the side of the house. It came up and turned around to stop to pick some of us up. My husband walked me to the bus and put me on the bus. I was going to a school that was not in the area and this was a special school bus. There were 13 people on it. (I am getting goosebumps just telling you this dream.) The bus pulled away from the curb and that was the end of the dream.

agvulpes, I did look up plane, but there was no reference to it falling out of the sky, however when I looked up "crash" the definition was as follows.

"Crash. Whatever it's origin or cause, a crash in your dream heralds an important achievement, and the louder or bigger the crash the more noteworthy will be the accomplishment."

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image

Cindy Lawson 8 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)

Lady Guinevere, I found the following definitions you may find helpful:

"Ice. Some aspects of an ice dream are contrary omens and some are not. To sit on ice forecasts comfortable living conditions, but to walk on ice is a warning of loss through speculation. To slip, slide, or fall on ice indicates coming difficulties, whereas if you broke through the ice, it signifies that your greatest anxieties are groundless. Ice seen floating in clear water (as in a brook, stream or lake) is a sign that you will overcome jealous opposition."

"School. A dream of being in school suggests that your reluctance to break old associations is retarding your progress; to dream of leaving school or of seeing a school from the outside predicts a sudden stroke on money luck, but don't go wild; it will be transitory"

"Basement. You need to be firm about refusing plans which don't really appeal to you."

"Cellar. A dry and/or well stocked cellar is an indication of expanding profitable business interests. If the cellar was dank, musty, and/or empty, it predicts financial worries or reverses which you may be able to mitigate by some thoughtful forward planning."

"Frost. The meaning varies according to the details. If you saw frost patterns on a window or building, you can expect to have an interesting and unusual experience; but if you dreamed of being frostbitten or of seeing the effects of frostbite on plants or vegetation, it is a warning that you will have to be extra cautious in the near future if you want to avoid great difficulties in either you personal of business affairs."

These are the closest definitions I could find to the details of your dream. I hope they help :)

Thank You, but I already know what it means. I just posted it here to see what you would come up with. When I started my new job, I had to get a my old computer upgraded or a whole new computer--deened on if I could put in more ram or not. My husband decidedthat we should get a new computer (this was his putting me on that bus and also holding me on the ice, he was with me). The buss and the speial school is that I am going to go thrugh a learning phase and my husband put me on that bus meaning he is helping me to get there. This is the first dream that I had with my hubby by my side and in agreement with me. Wel it is the first dream with him in it period.

The ice and the slipping and such--was my hubby doing the slipping, I was steady. The first few days of my new job were not so good and I almost lost it because I didn't have my computer doing what it was supposed to do due to lack of memory adn it is an old computer==over 8 years old. My hubby wasn't sure if I could pul it off and if I was serious about taking the job.

All is well now--still going to learn something new though!

What about flying-- without a plane, don't lots of people dream this?

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image

Rochelle, Flying, according to my book: "This is one dream symbol on which practically every source from Artemidorous on down agrees. It represents the dreamer's basic ambition, but the interpretation of flying (like a bird) is modified by the details of the flight and it's conditions, so the surroundings, weather etc., must be correlated with the action, but as a general guide: If you successfully maintained your flight at a low to medium height, you can expect to achieve your goal without too much difficulty. If you were trying, (or straining) to reach a high altitude, the dream is telling you that your grasp is greater than your reach and you would be wise to alter your course."

  • Rochelle Frank profile image

Rochelle Frank 8 years ago from California Gold Country

When I fly it is initially hard to get off the ground, but after the initial difficulty it is very easy to fly and maneuver at a moderate height. Also,I have a hard time convincing others that they can fly too, because it IS hard to get off the ground and most people give up too soon... even when they see me doing it.

You sound like a bird teaching others to fly, which may symbolically mean you have more expertise than they do and are trying to pass on the benefit of your experience.

Hi Maverickmonk. If you go back to the A-Z sections you will see I have added meanings for dreams about "Snakes, Streets and Run". You may also want to look up the meaning for "Chase" which was already on the A-Z. I hope the definitions help, or make sense to you at least. :)

  • Lady Guinevere profile image

Debra Allen 8 years ago from West By God

    Rochelle,

The reason you can't get off the ground is because you don't trust yourself enough to do whatever it is that you are wanting to do in life. Same with flying not as high as you want to. You are watching others do it but find that you can't do it totally by yourself.....let others help you and have a bit more trust in who you are.......................I hope this helps.

what does laughing while asleep mean

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image
    Author

Cindy Lawson 8 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)

Laughter: There is some difference among authoritative sources, but the consensus seems to be that this should, in the main, be interpreted as a dream of contrary, unless the dreamed laughter was that of children, in which case it predicts a stroke of money luck. Otherwise, if you were laughing in your dream, it signifies approaching unhappiness or disappointment in love, and if you heard others laughing, it portends a broken friendship.

I hope this helps Rudra and thanks for stopping by.

My “Paralysis Dream” turned out to be prophetic instead of symbolic. Seven months before a CVA, Cerebral Vascular Attack (a stroke), I an Able Bodied person at the time, had a dream I was in a wheelchair. Waking up to that type of dream, I was somewhat freaked-out to say the least, but I buried the dream and forgot about it. Then seven months later I did have a stroke with paralysis that put me in a wheelchair. Now many years later I am still somewhat paralyzed and only use the Wchair for longer treks. Anyway, since then, I have developed a prophetic dream cachet on a regular basis. The most recent dream was a man handed me an obituary newspaper clipping with my last name but with an unknown first name. In the dream, I spoke to the man that handed me the clipping and said. “I don’t know this guy….I don’t know this guy!” Meaning the named deceased. In awakened state two days later, I got word that my 80 year-old-father’s best friend passed-away! The “I don’t know this guy” part was me thinking it was a relative but in reality, like a relative, the deceased was like an uncle.

I hadra dream last night. I was going to a camp--like summer camp. My younger daughter and her dad also were there., We all had to take some written test When they had us do our own checking for answers and get our results, I thought that I failed. Instead someone helped me with the test scores and I found that I was promoted as the Master Camper--like teacher. My camping stuff and I were moved to another camping place in the big tent that everyone was in. Anyone want to helpo me withthis one?!

Hi Lady Guinevere, I have had a look and this is what I found out:

"Camp. A generally good omen. If it was a holiday type camp, it signifies a beneficial change of occupation and/or location; and if  it was a military camp, the augury is for great success in business ventures".

"Tent. Whatever your personal or financial worries may be, you will soon be relieved of them if you dreamed of pitching a tent; however, if your dream featured the collapse of a tent or other difficulty with it, the dream is warning you that you may have to revise your ideas as to where your future security lies".

"Examination. The classic daddy of obstacle dreams with a classic simplicity of meaning. If you failed the examination, the dream is telling you that your ambitions are beyond your ability and you would benefit from a change of goal. However, if you passed the exam easily or it presented no major problem to you, it predicts comfortable achievement of all your hopes".

I rarely remember my dreams, but I had one today that I still partially remember, and that really puzzles me.

I saw a kind of a tiny pier over a shallow sea, and several women - whom I watched from their backs - standing in the water along the pier and helping a long line of children to move along. Did not see their faces, too. There was a bum as a continuation of the pier, and at the end of the bum there was a man standing in the water his back to me, with some kind of a device in his hand, which did not look like a weapon.

He put the device to every child's head, and children were killed and fell into water and gone with the flow... A kind of a conveyor... All was pretty peaceful and serene...

    Any ideas?

Here are the two dreams I had repeatedly as a child:

    1) It started with me and my brother in a pool. The pool was inside, and there were huge windows all around the pool looking out at a blue sky and green fields. Suddenly, a giant octopus appeared inside the pool. My brother and I got out and ran as it started chasing us. A huge slide (like you see in park jungle gyms) popped up at the other end of the pool, and we climbed all the way to the top. As the octopus reached up for us, my brother fell down the slide. Just before the monster would eat him, I'd wake up.

    2) This one also has my brother in it. We're walking around a Mc Donald's, when we find a door that says "Employees Only" or something to that extent (I can never read words in my dreams). We go through and walk onto a huge balcony, like you'd see inside a large mansion's entryway, but with no stairs leading down. Some very tough-looking guys appear behind us, and in an attempt to get away, we jump off the balcony. In our descent, the floor keeps moving further and further away from us until it's suddenly right in our faces. Then I'd wake up, feeling as though I'd just fallen through the roof, jolt and all. I never landed in my dream.

Last night, I was talking with a couple of coworkers about weird dreams, when I remembered another one that haunted me so bad, I was unable to go in my basement without the lights on for several years. If anyone remembers a show called Ghostwriter, they might remember the character from my dream. The show was about a group of kids who befriended a nice ghost, but the ghost could only communicate through the written word; i.e. a computer-typed sentence, a book, writing on the wall, etc. In one episode, one of the characters had a dream about this strange new toy his sister had recently acquired that resembled a purple goo-man with a leather jacket and pants. It looked like this weird biker guy. In the dream, this goo-man proceeded to kill off all the kids until the boy finally stopped him. After seeing that episode, I had nightmares about the purple goo-man killing off my friends. The dreams were never exactly the same; it was more like having my own television show in my head. Every episode was a little different. I never died, but it scared me so bad I was afraid he would pop out and get me whenever I went in the basement. So everytime I went down there, I had to have every single light on before I could do anything. And if even one light was switched off or burnt out while I was downstairs, I'd scream like a banshee and be frozen in place.

I swear, I have the craziest dreams sometimes...

Okay here goes Misha, you will have to put these meanings together as best you can.

"Pier, or Quay. Ships alongside a quay are a straghtforward omen of travel, but a quay without ships is a warning of disappointment due to idleness or neglect of duty".

"Dock. To dream of seeing the dock from on board a ship portends a surprising and beneficial turn of events. A dream of a busy dock or dockyard indicates an increase in material wealth; but if you were alone on a dock or observed a deserted dockyard, the prediction is one of sadness".

"Water. The meaning of course, depends on the details and the action, but as a general guide, clear calm water is a favorable omen, while rough or murky water signifies difficulties. A dream of drinking cold water is a sign of good luck, but throwing or spilling it on anyone indicates a need to control your temper. Hot water (unless it is appropriate to the action) portends a season of social and/or business setbacks, but running water predicts lasting happiness. A waterfall in your dream forecasts a happy rise in status and/or imminent increase in material wealth. Gently flowing water promises contentment and peace of mind."

"Ocean. The meaning of this dream varies according to its details and action. The ocean, as such, is a good omen if calm, a sign of mixed fortune if choppy; but if very rough or stormy, it is a warning that real courage will be needed to overcome your obstacles, and the following interpretations must also be modified by the foregoing weather conditions. An ocean voyage predicts a lucky escape from an irritating problem; to swim in the ocean signifies that you will soon be enlarging your sphere of influence and/or activity."

"Children. If your dream featured children (of walking age upward), its augury is one of happiness in domestic affairs and/or business interests, whichever concerns you most".

    "Killing. see A-Z above".

Not sure what a "Bum" is to look it up, as I only know a Bum as being another word for a Tramp.

Not sure if these will have helped you work out your dream or not, but I hope so. :)

Cindy Lawson 8 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)

Hi Kika Rose, sorry this hastaken me a few hours but here goes with a breakdown of the meanings of various parts of your dream:

"Pool. A swimming pool is a symbol of social gaiety, unless it was empty, dirty, or in poor condition, in which case it is a warning against gambling or speculation. A garden pool is a happy omen for love affairs."

"Window. The meaning varies according to the type of window and the details of the dream action, but as a general guide: broekn windows forecast a change of residence; bay windows predict an increase in social activity; dormer windows are a sign of improving conditions; to open (or raise) a window indicates easy success; and to close one suggests a lucky escape from a present danger. To dream of jumping or climbing out a window predicts that whatever your troubles are you will find an unexpected way to overcome them, and to climb in a window indicates a new opportunity will soon come your way".

"Octopus" will mean the same as "Spider" above, (thanks to Lady Guinevere for that tip).

"Brother. The meaning varies according to the context and sex of the dreamer. For a woman it signifies great domestic security, but for a man it indicates family quarrels ahead. An objective dream of unity between brothers is an indication of financial stability."

"Balcony. This may be considered broadly as an obstacle dream, but you can overcome the difficulties by keeping calm. If the balcony collapsed or seemed dangerous, you will be likely to hear sad news, of, or from, distant friends."

"floor. Whether you were painting, polishing, sweeping, scrubbing, or what have you, any dream which featured cleaning or improving a floor, or laying a new floor, foretells profitable business activities. Personal good luck will be yours if you dreamed of sitting, lying, or louging on the floor."

Can't help much more on the other points as they are too specific and individual to be researched

"Sky. The omen here depends on the weather details. A clear sky, whether light or dark, signifies happy times ahead; a few clouds dispersing, are a sign of minor difficulties easily overcome; a few clouds, gathering indicate obstacles which will require more effort; and a stormy sky portends a period of stress that will require courage and determination. A gray sky is a sign of reliable friends who will stand by you in all kinds of weather."

Interesting post. I'm told and believe that the dreamer knows best what the symbols and colors, names, etc. in their dreams represent. What I wonder is why our subconscious (or wherever dreams stem from) doesn't communicate to us thru our conscious mind in ways we easily and readily understand rather than give us symbols in dreams we may or may not interpret correctly.

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image

Hi Shades, thanks for stopping by. Well here goes:

"Cattle. The significance of this dream depends on the action. If the cattle were peacefully grazing, it is a good omen of "easy come" prosperity. If you had to drive the cattle in your dream, you will also be successful but only through hard and diligent effort. Black or large-horned cattle suggest that your business affairs receive closer attention to avoid a loss".

"Bull. You have some tough competition facing you in business and/or love if your dream featured this animal, unless it was very light or white, in which case you'll have a stroke of great luck when you least expect it. If you dreamed of a bullfight, you are being warned to take decisive action to clear up an unpleasant personal situation".

    I hope this helps :)

Great Hub really liked it! I believe that individuals have their own special kind of dreams, depending on their daily life experiences. That’s kind of a scientific reason and secondly dreams are more from heart than mind. You see many things before they happen, that’s because you bother about them. When I was doing my masters I use to predict that ill be getting this much marks, I saw it all in my dreams. I have met many people who claim that they saw their family members in trouble in dream and it actually happened later. So I think that more you love some thing or some one more likely you’ll be having dream about them. That’s why it is said mothers know their children better than any one else even than children them selves. (Next time you go out to drink make sure your moms not sleeping)

I used to have this recurring dream of fighting an indian (I was a cowboy) he had a knife and was stronger and the knife point got closer and coser until eventually he stabbed me. I would then think that was not so painful or bad. And the dream would recur and did so for many years of my life.

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image

Hi Sixty. Hostile Indians are a warning of treachery among your associates. A sharp knife indicates personal strife. The meaning of fighting is change, and dependant on the result of the fight determines the degree of success or failure you may expect from the change.

Not sure about the cowboy thing unless it is a warning to be careful of Christoph :)

My Ex husband only took this serious after the third time he had an accident with his car and I had warned him before he left home, sometimes even asked him to wait or just not go. He had five car accidents and one with our beautyful 1100cc motorcycle... But the last accidents could be worse if I hadn't warned him:D ( now sometimes I just wished I didn't:P:P LOL)

Cool Hub. i have a Dream dictionary to, but it takes me so long to get the meanings, and plus, my dreams are super weird. Maybe you can figure these 2 out.

    1. This dream I had a year or 2 ago. I dreamt I divorced my husband, and married Corbin Bleu from High School Musical because he was a good kisser.

    2. The other night I dreamt that Hubby and I went back to High School as students, but we were at our present age. And I had already missed half the days classes on the first day.

Cindy Lawson 8 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)

Okay Cherish. I have to break down any dream into sections to look up the meanings, so this is what I found for your two dreams.

    1) Divorce. The significance of this dream depends upon the marital status of the dreamer. If married, it is a dream of contrary and you can rely on your mate; if single, it is a warning that your affections are probably misplaced.

    2) School. A dreaming of being in school suggests that your reluctance to break old associations is retarding your progress.

    3) Late. If you dreamed of being late, it's your conscience telling you to refrain from making promises you can't keep; if your dream featured others being late, it's a warning that you need to curb your extravagance to avoid financial difficulties.

    4) Kiss. The meaning of a dream kiss depends on the circumstances involved. If the kissing was pleasant, proper, and a sincere token of affection, it predicts happiness and contentment; but if it was of a perfunctory, meaningless, insincere, or illicit nature, it signifies a false friend or disappointment in a love affair. A dream of kissing babies or small children forecasts success in a difficult undertaking. To dream of trying to avoid a kiss from someone you dislike portends a minor illness or vexing experience.

    5) Fame. If your dream involved a famous person, keep trying because you will get help from an unexpected source.

    I hope these definitions helped. :) :)

A thought occured to me today that reminded me of this hub. I'll probably have to write a hub about it. Speaking strictly as a bible-believing conservative christian now ... The bible clearly documents that God spoke to a lot of people in dreams, not just those who worshiped Him or revered Him. In fact, He spoke to His opponents in dreams.

If there is any cross-religous way of God speaking to humans, it's dreams.

Wash: As a general guide washing by hand suggests you should refrain from getting involved in the personal affairs of others at the present time. Washing in a machine indicates an unexpected vacation or change of location. To dream of washing your hands and/or face predicts a pleasant new friendship in the offing.

Laundry. A dream of doing your own laundry predicts you will receive unexpected benefits (either social or financial) through an acquaintance on whom you made a strong impression.

I hope this answered your question.

Good job. I saw handcuffs but not hand.In a recent dream someone came up behind me for an unknown reason and I found myself holding the hand of the person by the wrist in a strong grip throughout the dream. I tried to identify the person or get help but the two persons I saw either knew the person or did not think seriously of my need.I did not allow the person to threaten me; that is why I held the hand tightly. I have written hubs on dreams recently.

I recently had a dream about a python. I was feeding a tank of fish, and one was staring at me from the surface, only too late I realized it was a snake, and a large one. It came at the hand that was holding the feed dish, but I dropped the dish and caught the snake. It twisted and bit my hand. Some how I locked it back in the tank, my mom came and scolded me for letting it out. My hand was turning purple but there was no actual wounds. Does being bitten signify antyhing? It isn't on the list...

i dreamed of vampires chasing me and the only way to kill them was to melt a coin (some sort of canister the sice of a coin) which contains their real blood (one drop of blood) preserved and then you have to drink the vampire blood. there were two vampires... I had to melt two coins... but then i woke up just in time when the second vampire showed up to prevent me from melting his life line... so i searched for the dream, however the dream dictionary only contains vampires and blood no melting, no coins...

I use the "The Dreamer's Dictionary" every time I have a dream. I see most of the entries were copied, or altered from the original interpretations in that book. Is there a "no copy" law, is there permissions needed? I think its a great database for online dream hunting, always thought they should put the book online. The book is so accurate it isn't even funny. If you need help in typing some entries up, let me know, and leave your email addy.

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image

Cindy Lawson 6 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)

Hi Ami, I deliberately gave all credit to the book in question in the hope most people would go out and buy it for themselves and interpret their own dreams. Assuming what is contained in the book is accurate and true to the meanings, then surely this is not a copyright issue as the meaning is "the meaning", (whoever writes it down). As you know, this is merely a fraction of the book, and therefore a good reason for people to actually go out and buy it, therefore allowing the authors to make more profit (I hope, as they deserve it). Thanks for your comment and feedback, your input should also encourage people to buy the book, and I don't intend to give any further interpretations from the book as I want people to buy it for themselves. This book is surely a "must have" for any home.

Teh dream is as follows: She has a horse that seems to be without skin. Someone in authority takes her horse and gives it away to his son. Teh son begins to beat the horse which does not flinch. Instead the horse looks at my wife wth pleading eyes while it bleeds. (NOTE: my wife is a staunch lover of animals)

Hi Leon, I am not a dream expert by any means, which is why I encourage people to buy the book I based this hub on. All I can do is give you individual meanings for "Blood", "Horses" and "Beatings", if they are in the book. The story of the dream you describe is beyond my capabilities as no book can be so specific. If you wish me to I shall look up the meanings of the words you suggest, but it would be up to you to work out the meaning of the dream overall, especially the "without skin" part.

As I said in the text of this hub, I feel everyone should have a copy of the book this hub was based on in their home for a good reason. Have you tried to buy a copy online as I have linked to ebay and Amazon with links to where you can buy the book from?

    Hi Sarah,

The closest I can come to your dream is when I look up "Burglar", which means:

"A Dream of contrary. Burglars in your dream predict an increase in worldly goods, and if you caught them, it will probably be by way of an inheritance"

The meanings of words such as "Theft", "Steal" etc were not suggested in a manner that fitted in with how you described the dream's events.

Misty, I have had dreams for the last 4-5 nights of shopping in stores. I am not shopping for anything in particular, but just shopping and buy--like it was an everday occurance and money was not an object. I get up exhausted from doing all that shopping. I don't see shopping or buying in your list of meanings. Every morning I tried to figure out exactly what it was that I was buying, but I can't. It's just shopping and buying.

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image

Hi LG, Well I had a look for shopping and buying and I got this:

Shop: Buying in one predicts petty financial problems which can be overcome by the use of a little self-restraint.

Buying: A dream of contrary. Indiscriminate buying in your dream indicates a need to conserve your resources.

I hope these might help a bit and make sense to you.

All my Avon profits will go straight into the joint checking! We also baught a new chair. It was a bargain we could not pass up thought. Thank You for researching it. Fro some reason this financial stuff always seems to happen at this time of year and no other. I have tried to disperse it but I can't seem to do that. This time I have gotten my husband to wite a list of the bills that we pay and how much the balance is and how much we are to pay each month---hoping he gets an idea of what the problems are. I am also trying to get him to realize that spending 6 bucks on lunch DOES affect the balance in the bank and why only a small amount WiLL set off a domino effect with Overdraft fees. I really think the banks are thieves though and big time!

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image
    Author

Cindy Lawson 6 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)

I am not a fan of banks either I have to say. Just recently there was a situation in our account where a cheque that my Husband had banked into his account took a day longer than we anticipated to clear, meaning he couldn't draw out the funds and pay them into our household account. As a result one Direct Debit ended up being paid a day late by the bank, who then promptly wrote to me to say that as a result of the unauthorised overdraft, plus their fees for each day over the limit etc etc, the total charges were £50, (and yes, that is pounds not dollars). It just doesn't seem justifiable by any stretch of the imagination somehow, especially as from what I could tell we never actually went over the overdraft limit because they simply didn't make the payment until a day later instead. They are thieves for sure.

You are right about the pack lunch thing too. I make my Husband sandwiches or wraps every day now, and if he bought the same food in the shop he would probably be paying out about £6 a day, instead it costs me about £1.50 to make this at home, sometimes less depending on the fillings in the sandwiches or wraps.

Okay got a dream for you. It was almost like a Lucid dream. I can't find some of the things in your dictionary nor mine.

This morning I dreamt (kind of) that Dennis and I were at this VERY posh hotel at a convention. There was a made up pond with a water fall and all that suff in it and there were c=some turtles. One was a normal wodd turtle but the other one was very elaborate. It was flat-like, like a sea turtle and the shell was of many bright colors (something like the collages that you make with tiles). Well It bit me on the leg, but it didn't hurt. It also bit a few others in my dream, and it hurt them.

After that I was going to find our room. The first room was on the first floor and then our room number changed because the first room was too close to the bar. The second room number was 301 or 3001. I don't know what that number has to do with anything in my life and I can't find anything for a Turtle like the one I saw in my dream.

    Thanks Cindy

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image
    Author

Cindy Lawson 6 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)

Hi LG, I shall have to try and break down the information to look this up, so essentially this is what I can find:

Turtles: are a symbol of frustrated ambition due to hidden hostility; if you persevere you may dispel the opposition; however, if after a reasonable time, the obstacle remains, you should reassess the position with an eye to altering your aim or your approach to it.

Hotel: If you were with one of the opposite sex, it relates to your love life or domestic affairs, and the omen is one of contrary depending on the general atmosphere. If the hotel was by your normal standards ostentatious or luxurious, it predicts failure or disappointment in the outcome of an important issue. The action and other elements of the dream should also be taken into consideration.

Bite: You may uncover a secret that you'd rather not know if you dreamed of being bitten by an animal or insect. There is a suggestion in this dream that you refrain from prying into the affairs of others.

Numbers: As a general guide the meaning of numbers varies according to the context and other details, but if you had the experience of being aware of the number of people or things in your dream it signifies an increase in personal power and/or prestige. To remember the numbers in your dream forecasts good luck ahead, possibly connected with the dreamed number or some derivative or multiple of it.

Bar: If you were merely observing the activity in a bar, it is a suggestion to interest yourself in community affairs.

Water: Clear calm water is is a favourable omen. A waterfall in your dream forecasts a happy rise in status and/or an imminent increase in material wealth. Gently flowing water promises contentment and peace of mind.

Colour: You can expect increasing security and success in all your affairs if you dreamed of a mixture of bright colours.

I hope these help LG. Let me know what you think after reading them and comparing them to your situation right now.

  • Lady Guinevere profile image

Sounds kind of confusing as the beginning Turtle and things are not so good, but the other parts are promising. Hmmm, I guess we will see what plays out with this one.

Well I just thought of the bite thing as last night I was talking to some people at the halloween party that finally knew who I was (running gor community president) and then I found that they can't vote becaseu they have not paid their dues. I really didn't want to hear that. Only people who have paid their dues in full can vote.

Im 16 and really into Psychology, so found this very interesting and helpful! I had this dream when i left primary school, which was so traumatising i didnt forget it! It was that the older members of my family (mother figure, older brother..) had killed this man who was considered 'bad news', he had a daughter that was apparently horrible, and i think he'd been threatening my aunt or something...but they killed him by smacking him in the head with something heavy and then buried him at the bottom of the field in my primary school playground, in a shallow grave. He was left there a few weeks and I was terrified of going down there in reality. Then I had another dream a few weeks on, where there was fear of discovering the body, so they unburied him and reburied him in our back garden instead, under the flower beds. 5 years have passed and as I have just finished school, I had the same dream again- accept in this time there was threat that the body would be discovered so we unburied him again with the plan to rebury him in a different section of the garden. However this time, my family made ME unbury him. It was night and the neighbours kept walking down their gardens and talking to me, so i pretended I was gardening and they eventually left me. It got really dark but i could see as i looked into the shallow pit, and pulled out a mixture of bones and meat...he was indisguisable but there were random lumps of flesh covered in blood and the bones forming his wrist and arm remained connected by something unknown. There seemed to be so much hidden there and i kept pulling more and more of the body out, the pile of them was growing massive next to me! I was terrified of every noise and was crying at how gross it was but felt strangely distant to the corpse and didnt feel remorse or pity. I cant remember how the dream ended. Can anyone analyse this for me? Or at least explain why the dream keeps coming up and continuing where it left off when Ive finished school? Replies would be appreciated :)

I am sorry I cannot help more than the following:

Corpse: Predicts a full and happy life if the corpse was that of a stranger. If the dead person was known to you then it signifies an estrangement or unhappy love affair.

Death: To dream of a death frequently signifies news of a birth. To be aware of a dead person you cannot identify portends an inheritance that may not be personal but could be indirectly beneficial.

I wish I could offer more, but your dream is almost too specific, which makes it harder. The book I recommend in this article is well worth buying so that you can check out such dreams detail by detail rather than people like me trying to pick out the relevant details to look up.

Hi , had a wierd dream ...I met a stranger (Blind women ) she asked me if my wife is Chinese ? and ask whether she could have lunch with me ? any clue or advice

  • mistyhorizon2003 profile image
    Author

Cindy Lawson 5 years ago from Guernsey (Channel Islands)

Well you would need to piece the info together, but essentially:

Blind: A warning dream. Whether it was you or others in the dream that were blind it is a sign of deceit amongst those you trust most.

Chinese: Chinese people or objects in your dream signify a satisfactory solution to all your problems. However if the objects were damaged or the people seemed unfriendly you may expect to make (or receive surprise guests from) a long journey.

Stranger: A dream of contrary. Strangers in your dream forecast happy reunions with valued friends.

I am not sure about the lunch part as it would have to be more specific i.e. was it a picnic, what was the food etc. The book does not have an answer just for 'lunch'.

    Hope this helped :)

hi. im wes, last night i had a dream that i went to the beach with a friend a best friend at that every thing was ok you kno we went out to bars drank smoked pot but then we were against each other like almost fighting thats not the most part tho then we went to our hotel and i was looking out the window at the other hotel exactly like the one i was in i noticed the hotel turning over as if it was top heavy but it didnt look like it was falling then it started to jus fell over like a stick standing straight up would fall no one was paying attention but me it seems that even the people in the hotel didnt kno as well it smashed the ground people were killed people fell out the hotel alot of people died alot!i walked to it and went inside seen people hurt and dead i tried to help the best i could but there were too many i felt helpless in away i walked out and walked to wut would be the top but on its side there was a play ground on the roof where i seen many injured kids most were dead i looked over at a woman my age i didnt kno her but i felt i did i started to cry and she said i dint need to be here so i went back to my hotel where my friend was and the woman was still with me. let it be known our room was at the very top. as i was looking out the window i noticed there was very bad weather and it had jus been sunny outside a few minutes earlier i started to notice the walls were kinda not staight i guess u can say and the building was moving unnaturaly i got nervous and told evryone we should go jus like the other hotel no one noticed that this one was goin down really soon so i left my friend and a few others followed i dont kno why tho we got the desk at the bottom to check out wen i looked out the door facing the beach and noticed how bad the weather was and forgot about the building i seen a huge wave and it got closer and closer i started to jump over the desk in fear wen the wave then got smaller and smaller and splashed on the door then i ran outside the others followed once again still dont kno why i got outside and their were rescue teams police directing everyone to saftey once again i noticed something strang they were directing them the wrong way as if they were forcing them to their death i didnt follow their directins cause i wanted to get out then the hotel fell the second one. i seen a wave that was atleast 600 800 ft. tall atleast it was a massive wave something u shouldnt even see in a dream the fear i felt was unthinkable i ran for my car i knew where it was exactly where it was i seen it i jus couldnt find it i kno that dosent make since but i seen it jus couldnt find it i looked back after helplessly tryin to get/find my car i seen the wave shoreline then i woke up the crazy thing is this dream felt real ive had dreams that felt real befor but i mean this dream was too real i felt pain physical pain, hunger, the rumble of the hotel falling the tears run down my ceek the wind blowing the drops of water on my face the smells it was as if it happened i didnt think i was in a dream wen i woke up ive never had a dream like this in my 21 years and ive had bad dreams but this one caught my attention its the only dream that i was able to remeber every detail down to the colors of peoples shirts and wut they said even conversations of everyone i passed and this was the shortest detrail that i could give so if u could help me figure out what this means i would thank u a millon times

Wow, Wes, that is a huge ask. To go through all of your dream would take me ages, and I am not a dream analyst, you would need to piece the information about each little section of the dream meanings together, I can only look up individual aspects, e.g. waves, death, fighting, friends, etc. I really recommend you buy the book I recommended when I wrote this article, and which you can currently find in the very first Advert block to the right below the header picture to this hub. It is only $5.99 and you can spend a bit of time then going through it word for word, plus you can use it again whenever you wish to. Make sure the one you buy is the one by Stearn Robinson and Tom Corbett, as this is the really good one I use.

    Good Luck

No idea mz, none of those things are likely to be featured in the Dreamers Dictionary for me to look them up, apart from the ghost part which i listed in the main article and it means:Ghost. The meaning of this dream varies according to the action. If the Ghost simply appeared in your dream, it is an omen of general good luck; however, if you were frightened by it or it spoke to you, it is a warning that some powerful pressure will be brought to bear on you to join in a scheme or activity which is against your principles. Resist the temptation with all the strength you can muster, and if necessary get help from a trusted friend or adviser.

At a stretch you could consider the youtube video a 'movie' in which case the meaning is: Movie, it depends on if you liked what you saw, if you did there are pleasant social times ahead, but if you were depressed, displeased or disgusted, you are being warned against being deluded by a dishonest avowal of love or cheated by an insincere declaration of friendship.

Hope these might help a little.

    Hi,

Last night I had a very disturbing dream where a man (a stranger to me) was attempting to attack me with a knife. This stranger was unsuccesfull as I was stabbing him before he could stab me. The knives i was using were clean shiny knives such as kitchen knives.

This was a very disturbing dream that left me soaked in sweat.

Are there any meanings to this dream? If so what should i do? I would rather face any problems head on than to suffer such a disturbing dream again.

    Kind regards

    Daniel Lythgoe

    Hi Daniel,

Well I can break it down into parts for you as best I can, but you would need to piece the info together:

Assault: You will be given some information which will be of great value to you if you were assaulted in your dream; if others were assaulted you may have to defend an attack on your character.

Knife: A sharp knife signifies personal strife.

Cut: To dream of yourself or anyone else being cut by a sharp edge or object is a warning that indiscreet gossip or behaviour could be very costly.

Blade: If clean and shiny it indicates helpful new friends.

Stranger; A dream of contrary. Strangers in your dream forecast happy reunions with valued friends.

Fight: The basic meaning of fight in a dream is change. If you are a business person it signifies a change of enterprise, for an employed person a change of job. The degree of success or failure may be determined by the outcome of the dreamed fight.

I hope this helps you work out the meaning of your dream Daniel. Good Luck :)

    Hi Khayelihle,

Well this is the best I can do as I haven't got much I can look up in the book.

Stone (s): A dream of throwing stones is a sign of regret over a missed opportunity; let it be a lesson to you but don't waste energy in vain postmortems.

Sand: Whether the sand was on a beach, in your food, or in your shoes, it is warning you to be wary of a new acquaintance who will try to exploit you.

Dirt: A dream of throwing dirt or having it thrown at you is a warning that someone in whom you have confided will attempt to use the information against you; be prepared to defend yourself.

    I hope this helps :)

Hello!I just read about what are dreams mean in your page but I'm kind of confuse about my dreams and maybe you can help me.It was about like i'm flying and trying to rescue some people.I have had this kind of dream many times but I just ignore it.Last night I dreamed it again.Hope you can help me,you did a good job.Have a good day there.

Hi Aprilkisses, well 'Rescue' is already listed in the A-Z section above, and 'Flying' represents the dreamers basic ambition, but the interpretation of flying (like a bird) is modified by the details of the flight and its conditions, so the surroundings, weather etc must be correlated with the action. As a general guide, if you successfully maintained your flight at a low to medium height you can expect to achieve your goal without much difficulty. If you were trying or straining to reach a high altitude, the dream is telling you that your grasp is greater than your reach and you would be wise to alter course.

    I hope this helped.

Hi Mark Anthony, you are lucky, this is the last dream I am going to analyse here as it is taking up too much of my time and people really should be buying the book for themselves.

Flying is listed in my reply to the poster immediately above your comment.

No idea on mountain chicken, too specific for the book.

Pepper is a warning to cool your temper.

Frogs signify personal contentment, success within your sphere of activity, and sincere friends.

Animals are covered in the A-Z section in the Hub.

Food in general is an auspicious omen, providing the food was fresh and sufficient for the occasion. If it was spoiled in any way you can expect some reverses which will require careful planning to overcome.

Inoculation (the closest I could find to injection), though money may be short for now, you can be sure your creditors will by sympathetic and cooperative if you dreamed of being protected from disease by inoculation.

    Hope this helps.
