Scorpio Sun Sign People

The Eagle, Snake, and Phoenix

I know you believe all Scorpio Sun sign people are obsessed with sex and death. Obsession is a strong word, but yes, they are interested in both of these issues. The eighth house rules Scorpio and also rules sex, death, inheritances, insurance policies, and money invested or shared with a partner.

But Scorpios do want to solve the mystery of what happens to us after death. Is there an afterlife? When life is bad are we living in Hell now? Where does our Spirit go when our body dies? These are all questions a Scorpio wants to have answered. And since they research anything that interests them, they will study religions or anything to find those answers. Many are morticians or the good Scorpios are ministers. They can be shamans and healers. And they sure know how to handle money! They are great lovers and sex is integral to their being. Scorpios are very emotional though, and sex with one can be a highly spiritual experience. Once you have sex with a Scorpio, it spoils you for anyone else, they won't measure up. But let's take a closer look. Scorpio people are much more complex than this.

Scorpios Are Complicated

Scorpio is symbolized by the scorpion, eagle, and phoenix. This is a complicated sign, as are its deeply serious, strongly emotional and willful natives. Before Pluto was discovered, Mars was considered the ruling planet of Scorpios. In the past four or five years, scientists have decided that Pluto is not a planet. It is still accepted as Scorpio’s ruler in the astrology world. Of course, in this sign there would be a mystery about the ruler, Scorpio Sun sign people are mysterious and only reveal as little about themselves as possible.

There has also been talk of a new, recently found thirteenth Astrology sign called Ophiuchus, which allows only nine birth days for a person to be considered a Scorpio at all! This is not news, the ancient Babylonians “discovered” this body in the night sky, around the celestial equator, ages ago. Ignore it. Science does no longer recognize Pluto as a planet, but astrology does.

Scorpio people can soar like an eagle when life is good and they are in their element, or fall to the depths of a scorpion. They go to extremes. The phoenix symbol is most fitting because Scorpio Sun sign people can reinvent themselves and are capable of achieving extreme life changes many times during the course of their lives, always after a great deal of soul searching. This is normally after something so unspeakably bad has happened to them that a weaker person would lie in bed for months, Scorpios are made of tougher stuff than that. They often want to work to better themselves in some way. They are either very good or very bad, there are no shades of gray for a Scorpio person. They have the ability to rise from the ashes, like a phoenix, and the inner strength to make harder changes than mere mortals of other signs. They can transform no matter how terrible a situation life has dealt them.

Please remember that no Sun sign ever “falls on a cusp”, the Sun was in a specific sign at the time of your birth. You need to look it up in a book called an ephemeris, which lists which signs all planets were in for a period of usually fifty years. You can also find tables online which tell you what sign a planet was in on a certain date. The birthdays normally fall approximately between Oct. 21st, and Nov. 21st, but this is not a hard and fast rule, signs can begin on the 20th of the month and end as late as the 23rd. Using the 21st is just a general way to understand the cycle of each zodiac sign.

Highly Emotional and Stubborn

Scorpio is a fixed, Water sign, so its natives are very emotional and stubborn. It may help you understand their nature if you think of ice. If you annoy them enough, you will be the recipient of the famous Scorpio “icy stare”, or feel that infamous sting of sarcasm. But please do not take this the wrong way. Scorpio people can be very nice, they just have a low tolerance level for things and people they do not like. They do not accept changes easily.

But they are surprisingly sentimental, more than most other signs. They only show it to the few people they love and trust the most. You may be shocked to find they saved a letter you wrote them twenty years ago when you tried to comfort them after a breakup, or when you see they still have a dried flower from somebody’s wedding that they saved. Reserved and suspicious by nature, it takes time to win their trust. But once you have, they will be your loyal and true friend for life. Scorpio Sun sign people are frugal with money and know how to stretch a dollar. One way they save money is by re-purposing old, used items. Scorpios, like other Water signs, are very creative and can make lovely things out of old things others would throw out. They are both energetic and need rest in short spurts.

A person who perceives life as either black or white has no middle ground, so has strong opinions. Once you understand that, you will have the key to understanding Scorpio Sun sign people. They have very deep emotions, so intense they sometimes do not know how to deal with them. Scorpios love being near the water, whether for fishing or going on a cruise. They tend to mind their own business, and would prefer you do the same. They will listen if you want to share what is on your mind, and will keep a confidence. But do not expect them to spill everything they feel because you did! They speak in a blunt manner, but not to hurt your feelings, they just want to get to the point.

A good Scorpio soars like an eagle.

A good Scorpio soars like an eagle.

Amulets and Talismans

Amulets and talismans for Scorpio Sun sign people are lapus lazuli, the blue stone with gold flecks which helps to open your third eye. These are very psychic people, and if you love one, soon you will be able to communicate by telepathy. Scorpios often suffer from IBS or stomach ailments, and fluorite is a good stone to help that. It's light green and often mixed with clear crystal. Amethyst is also regarded as the stone of the seer or mystic, a natural choice for psychic Scorpio. They also sharpen the intellect and protect one from slander.

Blue sodalite is also great for opening the third eye and helping aid intuition, especially the more psychic the person is. Citrine stops people from being too extravagant (not that Scorpios need a stone to be careful in financial matters). It also helps Scorpios find success and abundance, although they are pretty good at that on their own! Moss agate can aid sadness and helps heal fights between friends. It is a general mood stabilizer, and helps one see life with the glass half full. It also allows a Scorpio to see the beauty of simple things.

Serious and Psychic

The key phrase for Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio Sun sign people deal with the process of transformation on all levels. They normally change things to try to improve them. Scorpios possess the strongest will power and the most intense emotional desires. There is tremendous force in a Scorpio’s romantic nature, so do not toy with them! They are very serious and do not take anything lightly, so it is best if they start with good intentions from the start. They are strong defenders of justice or those in need, and never get involved in anything halfway. Although they despise weakness in themselves, they are surprisingly tender with those who are weak and need help. Scorpio Sun sign people are not by nature diplomatic but say their truth bluntly. They like to investigate anything that interests them and will leave no stone unturned in research.

Scorpio Sun sign people are very psychic people and have worked hard to develop their gift further. You do not have to say what is on your mind, they can read you like a book. They see visions and auras, and should always trust their natural instincts. They have penetrating eyes that see right through you and a strong aura of magnetism. People are always drawn to them. Scorpios love to study any occult subject and are most likely well-versed in many of them. They want answers to the mysteries of life, and make a large effort to find those answers. One thing that many families discover is that if a Scorpio in the family dies, often another one is born within the same year. I have seen it happen several times.

Intelligent and Inquisitive

Scorpio Sun sign people make good researchers as they have inquisitive minds and love puzzles. They can also be firefighters, detectives, scientists, doctors, nurses, first aid squad volunteers, or career Navy people. They like discipline and the sea. Whatever your Scorpio decides to do for a living will be done with their characteristic intensity. They have sharp minds and are good at finding lost things. Scorpios are gentle and patient with children, or with anyone they perceive as less strong than themselves. The Scorpio Sun sign love nature is romantic, but they can be possessive and jealous at times. So it’s up to you to teach them not to be that way, and to convince them that you can be trusted. They are bold when they take action, and brave in any emergency situation. They never forget a kindness and will always help someone who did something nice and return the favor. Scorpios hate to get rid of anything, but on the up side, are good recyclers, and often make good managers of second hand shops. They have an artistic streak like other water signs and love to repurpose old “finds” to adapt them for new uses. They love antiques and rooting around in second hand shops. They also like to build things and work with their hands.

I apologize if I came off as rude about people who think they are born on cusps. But in my defense, I get at least 100 of them every day, and have written and published hundreds of articles on astrology to clear up misconceptions for years (and am normally a patient person). Anyone who reads on their own or even bothers to look up their own information can find this out quite easily. These are very old characterizations of astrology. If a person has traits from more than one sign, especially the one next to their Sun sign, that means they have Mercury or Venus, and maybe other planets in the zodiac sign next to the Sun.

Are you also writing on here as Lions4Eva? I got dissed the same way there at the same day and time. I spend hours trying to help people, and answering the same, astrology 101 questions over and over and over gets so difficult, especially when if the person read the thread, the same question has been answered before theirs. Leos are strong, very protective of family, gracious, willing to help, and sociable. I still believe a person with a lot of Scorpio is stronger, but that's been my experience after working with so many people. Your opinion is valid.

ThePaganSun on September 09, 2019:

You were quite rude to me too and I could tell by how you talked down to some of your other readers. But I'm willing to move past that, if you are.

And yes, I know that everyone has ONE Sun sign. But I've never read anywhere that just because someone was born on a "cusp" it means they suddenly have TWO Sun Signs, but it just means that at least a few traits of the two signs can overlap. That's all a "cusp" and yes, I could'vd been a bit more diplomatic with my words, but when you simply dismissed the "cusps" as practically rubbish in a rather high-handed manner, it rubbed me the wrong way.

My other comment about the fixed signs is in exasperation of modern astrologers speaking of Scorpio as if it's this lumbering, dangerous dragon that heaven forbid gets upset but then speak of Leo as though it's this overly soft attention-seeking show kitty rather than the equally powerful and danger predator that it is. Sadly, some modern astrology need to be reminded that Leo is not the Zodiac's pet or show kitty but rather a lion. It can be loving and kind, sure. But so can Scorpio and the other signs. But while Scorpio has its stinger, Leo has teeth and claws and knows how to use them when necessary which modern astrologers often forget to mention.

Hi Lissa,

Thanks for writing and commenting. Each planet is in a sign, for instance, Mercury and Venus are the closest to the sun. He may have one or both in Libra. That would make him more lighthearted. Take care.

Lissa Clason from Fayetteville, NC on October 15, 2014:

My boyfriend is a Scorpio and this fits him pretty well. He doesn't have the jealousy Scorpios are famous for though, and he's normally not all that serious, although that may be because I'm his girlfriend and he can joke around with me.

Jean Bakula (author) from New Jersey on July 20, 2014:

The Pagan Sun,

You are one of the rudest and uninformed commenters I've had in three years of writing on Hubpages. I've studied Astrology for over 35 years, and if you actually read what I said, you may have found we are not in such a disagreement. I said that although many people believe they are "born on a cusp", that when you look their birthday up in an Ephemeris (a book of planetary positions for usually a 50 year period), you will see their Sun is ALWAYS only in one sign. It's never in two, which many believe means they don't have one specific Sun sign, when they must. Of course, they will exhibit traits of other signs, especially considering that Mercury (how they think) and Venus (social and love life) are the planets closest to the Sun, one can have, say a Scorpio Sun, Mercury in Libra, and Venus in Sagittarius. I am old school, and if the Sun is close to the CUSP, there are 12 of them to divide the houses, I still interpret the Sun as in the house it's in, I don't move it to the next house. That's my prerogative as an Astrologer. And why you think you need to tell me the other fixed signs can be stubborn or don't like change is beyond me, anyone who reads one blog post or studies Astrology for one day knows that. What are you trying to prove?

ThePaganSun on July 20, 2014:

Um...there IS a such thing as a "cusp" and the fact that Tropical astrology doesn't correspond to Sidereal (which is closer to the actual days the Sun is in the constellation but has its own faults) and it's when people are born near or to the end of two signs like March 20 will make one a Pisces/Aries cusp so just because you personally don't believe in them doesn't mean they don't exist in astrology. And Leo, Taurus and Aquarius are just as strong willed as Scorpio since they're fixed signs too. Please get your facts right.

Jean Bakula (author) from New Jersey on March 27, 2014:

Thanks for your input, Josephine. Both Aries and Scorpio were ruled by Mars before Pluto was made the ruler of Scorpio when it was discovered. Many people are not as well versed in astrology as you are, and believe it's only the sign your sun is in that matters. And yes, all Scorpios have that black/white thing going on.

Josephine1929 on March 25, 2014:

I am a Scorpio!! I would like to add some personal traits that I seem to find with the majority of scorpio friends and myself. Most Scorpio's love tomato's., We are stubborn and set in our ways because we do not like change. We love passionately and are very loyal to our loved ones but if you cross us then we will walk away with no-remorse. Our desire to learn occult mysticism is engrained so deep that we constantly keep seeking. We do see black-n-white and it is hard to change our minds. We are good with research and analytical data and challenging positions. Many Scorpions are sentimental, personally, I am not sentimental at all. Keepsakes mean nothing to me, but my friend scorpio's they do. I am not a humorous person but I do laugh at my own jokes that of course, no one gets but me. Also I have found that Scorpio's are attracted to Libra's who drain them of their energy because Libra's are controllers, it is hard for a Libra and Scorpio to last past the sexual attraction because Libra's are so demanding. Aries and Scorpio's go well together in friendship and romance but once that relationship is compromised by mistrust from the airy-ness from the Aries that relationship faulters as well. Scorpio's do have huge hearts and once broken it is hard to bend and Scorpion begins to redefine themselves.. The ability to reinvent oneself is the ultimate gift to the Universe. Well, this is my input on this article... Thanks for the Scorpio lessen, btw. I feel like I have read all this before and there really wasn't anything new in this article that I didn't already know. :)

Hi jjpinki,

I think you made the right choice, as another woman. Who knows, maybe he'll straighten out in the future, by why hold up your own life for someone with so many problems? I understand you wanting to figure out someone, lol. I'm Cancer, but my Mercury and Venus are both in Gemini, ruled by Mercury, same as Virgo. That's what I am doing with Astrology and the tarot, when you think of it, figuring out what makes people tick! Take care, Jean

thanx for ur input and u are right,i was thinking the same its time to move on ,he says he has no doubts about me and says he wants to see me and always as wanted that but if he wanted it enough he wouldve done something about it by now ,i just read so much about scorpios and this is the 1st scorpio in my life so think i partly stuck around cos virgos like to understand everything n i couldnt figure him out lol :0) iys a shame cos i really fell for him but im going to move on .love ur hub i love astrology and tarot etc so will be back to read more .

Jean Bakula (author) from New Jersey on May 07, 2012:

Hello jjpinki,

Well, Scorpios do run hot or cold. They are very good or very bad. It sounds to me as if he wants to have a relationship, but is afraid to commit to one at the same time. They are genuine, but also secretive. I don't understand why he would pursue you and back off like that, unless he had fears. They have deep emotions, so stormy it's hard for them to deal with themselves. But on the other side of the coin, I don't think it's positive for you to wait for someone who promises a relationship, but isn't committing to one. Virgo and Scorpio are Earth and Water, a good combo. Virgos are ruled by their heads. His sounds too confused right now. Why don't you move forward in your own life, and give him some time? Maybe he will get it together in the future. If he hasn't "gotten it together" in the last 2 years, I would be very leary of getting involved. Do you need the headache? Keep me posted. Best Wishes.

Jean Bakula (author) from New Jersey on April 19, 2012:

Hi jan,

When you have 3 or more planets in a sign, like your 4 in Scorpio, it's called a Stellium. It's important, and can make you seem more Scorpio than a Sunsign Scorpio. If you husband has Sag and Leo, he's an upbeat and sunny Scorpio. My son is a Scorpio Sun/Moon, and thankfully has 3 planets in Sag, so is outgoing, and fun to be with. The Sun, Moon and Ascendant carry more weight in the horoscope than the other planets, though all matter. The Stellium is up there with the Sun, Moon and Ascendant in importance too. Scorpios are ambitious and can be ruthless. They can be charmingly ruthless, or downright pushy, depending on other planets. He sounds like he has a nice combination. And he has you :).

jan on April 19, 2012:

so interesting about how scorpios find lost things, but my sun scorpio husband is always finding things and cant find them, and it's me who always finds lost things. it could be because i have 4 planets in scorpio but not a sun scorpio and he has plenty of planets in leo and sagittarius and is on the cusp sag. so maybe those have a large effect on him over his sun. and,we're both artistic though. but i have to say, he is the most (and i say this in a most positive loving way) ruthless and ambitiously determined man when it comes to his work. lol. and yeah probably his love life, as he did his very best to get me, and wow, i didn't even realise it until i had the ring on my finger years ago. LOL and he jokes, 'well, i dont need to charm you anymore, i already have you!" lmao! and acts lazily like a jupiterian and sun ruled man. (his leo and sag) he's such a lovely joker. :)

Scorpio Sun and Moon is heavy, like my son. To say they are stubborn is an understatement. They know what they want, and what they don't want. They are kind, and will do a lot to help a friend or family member they really care for. Taurus is also a fixed sign like Scorpio, so she's really set in her ways. Taurus makes her appear gentle and mellow, then I bet she hits you with zingers! Thanks for commenting!
