Blunt and Optimistic
Mercury in Sagittarius people are the most sincere, warm, and generous people you could ever want to know. They have big and lofty ideas, and since they are so mentally active, can sometimes take on huge projects that would terrify another person. Since this is a fire sign, these are very active people. Mercury in Sagittarius people are blunt in speech, and can often put their foot in their mouths. But they never mean to hurt anyone’s feelings, and are so lovable you forgive them right away. Your Mercury in Sagittarius friend always understands where you are coming from when you talk, and often offers great solutions to your problems. If they can’t offer a solution, they have loads of sympathy for your plight. When a friend of theirs is in trouble, they will always be the first to lend a helping hand.
You Must Respect Their Boundaries
They love the outdoors, being both fond of nature and its animal friends. Sports are normally a big interest too, although these are people who tend to be on the klutzy side. Not to worry though, they own all kinds of braces and bandages from all the injuries they have suffered from their exploits over the years. Their sense of optimism never fades though, and they will continue to ski, roller blade, or do whatever it was that caused the injury. They love life too much to sit there and watch it go by, these are people who live life to the fullest.
Mercury in Sagittarius people are ambitious, and want to get to the top of their chosen profession. They love to learn, whether its philosophy, religions, law, medicine, or anything to do with higher education. They are wise and philosophical, and need to be with people or in places where they are allowed freedom and independence in thought and speech. That is why they surround themselves with droves of people, they like talking to everyone and sharing ideas. Mercury in Sagittarius people are fascinated with learning about other cultures, and may often live in a different country than the one they were born in. But although they are fond of change and travel, they are always glad to come home to see family and friends. Home may end up being one of the places they traveled to and fell in love with, but that’s fine with them.
Organized in a Casual Way
So a person who thinks big needs a big house, because they are very likely to have a large family, made up of a lot of their own children, and everyone else’s too. Also, if they have moved far away from their birthplace and relatives, they will have visitors who plan to stay awhile. Plus a Mercury in Sagittarius person has so many friends who they consider family, when you first meet them, it is not easy to figure out who is actually in the family, and who is a friend of the family.
It does not matter to your Mercury in Sagittarius friend, let’s call her Sheryl. She wants everyone to be relaxed and comfortable when they visit, and she cares not a bit if they stay the weekend, or for a month, whatever they want is fine with her. Some think she is a bit of a scatterbrain, because her mind is going a mile a minute, and so is her speech. But she knows every detail of every little thing going on in that huge house, and everyone adores her for that. This is a person who would be horrified by someone who has plastic covers to protect their furniture, or who complains that the children are making a mess with their toys. Kids are supposed to make a mess with toys, how can they have fun if they don’t? So what if the dogs are sitting on the couch? She loves the dogs. Doesn’t everyone? Sheryl just cannot understand anyone who wants a house featured in House Beautiful, what good is it if the family cannot relax and let their hair down?
They See the Big Picture
So when Sheryl and her husband bought their first house, their first set of twins were on the way, and they looked at big houses that had a lot of room. And it’s a good thing, because they ended up having seven children. The house grew with the family, and each room is colorful and roomy, perfect for their crowd. They needed a large dining/eating area, and a big living room. They compromised with the living room by having other smaller rooms with couches and seating for everyone. Plus all the bedrooms had ample space for the inevitable sleepovers when the kids got older—and they had a second set of twins along the way to the final seven children.
Mercury in Sagittarius people don’t care about little details, they see the big picture. And they want a very active and interesting life they can share with others. A Mercury in Sagittarius person will give you the shirt off their back. They do not really care what public opinion is, they trust in their own thoughts and ideas, and live life the way they choose. But they are more conservative than they pretend. Secretly they want to be in a high position in an institution of some sort, like a church, a university, or some kind of government office.
These are people who understand that just because a certain attitude is popular, that does not make it right. Mercury in Sagittarius people love to have vigorous debates about all sorts of topics. They want to achieve intellectual authority and status, and if they feel they have, may conform a little bit more. Sometimes they consider themselves paragons of truth, and that can get a bit annoying. If they start the moral sermonizing it is usually because that Mercury is badly aspected by another planet. If you try to cross them, they can react by being rebellious, but are actually a bit more traditional in values than they let on. Fairness is very important to them.
These are people who can be oblivious to what is going on around them if they get preoccupied with distant goals, because they are daydreamers. No matter how big the family responsibilities get, Sheryl still makes time to protest whatever it is she is against, and goes door to door to petition for whatever she thinks the town needs. But she always has time to listen and talk to everyone else, and does not do all the talking, a nice trait in a person. This is a person who can also work while having a big family, because she is so generous and giving to others, they want to help her achieve any of her goals and are willing to help her.
Generous to a Fault
Some wonder how one person can handle so much going on at once, but a Mercury in Sagittarius person wonders how others cannot adjust to having a huge house, over crowded with people, work a full time job, and still find time to get involved in civic affairs. One really does need to see the big picture to be able to want all that out of life and be able to achieve it. So the next time anyone thinks Sheryl is a scatterbrain, they better think that over, and realize how many things she is planning to do that day! It takes all the Sagittarian optimism and can do spirit of a Mercury in Sagittarius person to be able to get so much out of life. And best of all, they give it back too, with all that generosity. After all, big planet Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius.
Questions & Answers
Question: My better half is Sagittarius (sun) & Gemini (moon).I'm Virgo (sun) & Capricorn (moon). What's your view in our case?
Answer: You are a lot more down to earth and sensible than your other half. This can be good though, and mean you really compliment each other. Sag sun people are independent and smart, usually interested in causes, education, and travel. The Gemini Moon can be flirty but is someone who likes to talk and communicate about the relationship. Being Virgo, you like to take care of a partner and are also mentally active. Virgo is a square aspect to Sag and Gemini, but this can add challenges in a good way and add sexual chemistry. The Capricorn Moon makes you the planner, the one who looks forward. So I think you balance each other. Your partner is an idea person, but you make the plans to make those dreams real. Go for it!
Question: My partner is a Sagittarius (Sun) with Mercury in Sagittarius and Moon in Cancer. I'm Aries sun, Libra Moon, Taurus Mercury, and Cancer Asc. What's your take on this combination? We hit a bit of a rough patch recently, miscommunication, disbalance, stagnation. We've been together for 4 years now.
Answer: The Sag Sun and Aries Sun are the "directors" of your personalities, and pull all the interpretation of the meanings of the other together. Since you are both Fire sign suns, you are both impulsive, passionate, and friendly. Being Aries, you change more and jump in and out of things more, the Sag is more serious, interested in education, or getting more involved in what the interests are. The Cancer and Libra Moons are called a square in astrology, and many people think they are "bad" and get scared of them. My love of 39 yrs. and I had both Moon and Venus squares. It adds challenge and chemistry, so the relationship doesn't get dull.
But you seem to be in a stagnant patch lately. I have different planets for each of you, so it's hard to compare. The Taurus Mercury one thinks in a stubborn way and doesn't change point of view easily. That can make for a boring time, we need to grow and change, to keep life interesting, and usually change our minds on some things as life goes on. Mercury in Sag is more of a deep thinker, and can also believe they are always right. So this can be the cause of communication issues. Taurus Mercury has to try to be a bit more open minded, but is sensible and sensual, probably can be coaxed out to do something new romantically. Mercury in Sag has to learn that they aren't always right, and can be open more to what the other one has to say. Your partner's Moon in Cancer means the feelings get easily hurt too, so tread lightly. If you've been together for 4 yrs., I think based on what you say here it is just a patch that will pass when you get interested in other things. Why not take a course together, or maybe try to go to some new places? Maybe you outgrew your friends, or just got bored. I think it's a good combo, talk about it and listen to each other, do something to get out of the rut. It happens in the best of relationships. Best of luck to you two! Jean

So you are very intelligent and think about the big issues. The Moon in Gemini means you change the way you feel a lot, don't really want to get tied down right now. That's fine. We need Sag people to worry about the big stuff!
